Personal Headcanon: Rabastan thought he would be alone forever, and he was fine with that. He gave up on Emmeline and him ever being together until one night with drinks and confessions lead to them falling in bed together. It happened again a few more times, always with whispers on love, but cold brushes in the morning. When it was discovered she was pregnant Rab decided to be a stand-up person… and offer to pay for an abortion. Emmeline refused and Rabastan didn’t hear from her again until the twins were 5 years old. He was back in London walking around when a little girl, with tears in her eyes, ran up to him asking for help. The moment he looked at her, he knew. He could feel it, he would never love anyone as much as he loved her.. or so he thought until he helped her find her mother that was frantically looking for her with an identical little boy. He begged Emmeline to give him another chance, that he would change, she didn’t believe him. He needed to prove it, and he did. Coming to see the twins any chance he could get, teaching them small spells and taking them to Quidditch games. When the twins were 11 Rabastan broke down when they got their letters, if you asked he would deny and say he had something in his eyes.
