“You hide it in jokes and sarcasm, but I can see how broken you are.”
.
“You hide it in jokes and sarcasm, but I can see how broken you are.” Tentatively, Aja approaches Jim.
“I’m not broken.”
“I—I didn’t mean it like that.” She gently touches his arm. “But I can see you’re hurting.”
“Aja—”
“Didn’t you once tell me it’s never good to suffer alone? To shut out your close friends and family? People who love you?”
Jim turns away from her. “This is different, Aja.”
“How so?” She moves so she can see his face again, though he won’t meet her gaze. “We are both warriors. We both know what it’s like to lose.”
Finally, Jim’s eyes meet hers. There’s a million thoughts running through his head, Aja can see that clearly. She reaches up to cup his cheek in her hand. “It’s okay,” she whispers. “You don’t have to talk about it now. I’ll be here. Whenever you’re ready.”
Jim wraps his hand gently around Aja’s fingers. “I don’t know I’ll ever be.”
“Then, I’ll just be here.” She offers him a shaky smile. “Jim, I…” She looks down away from him, and then back at him. “I love you.”
Jim presses his forehead against hers. “I love you, too, Aja,” he replies. He exhales. “And, thank you.”
They embrace. Jim buries his head in Aja’s shoulder. She can feel his trembles as he begins to cry. She puts her hand on the back of his head.
Today may end in sorrow, but tomorrow will come. And they have each other. Always.

9. Do they discuss big issues? Religion? Marriage? Children? Death?
Death is one of the first topics they discuss. Both assume (and fear) they will outlive the other, but when they start crunching numbers, they realize that trolls and Akiridions have similarly long lifespans. Neither will outlive the other by centuries.
Neither Aja nor Jim are particularly religious, so that’s not a big issue for them. They do, however, have quite a few discussions on culture and how to integrate theirs together.
A headcanon of mine is that when Akiridions get married/start a new family, they create a new set of customs, based on their families’ existing ones, but is also new and completely their own. (This is based on how Aja and Krel are of House Tarron and not either of their parents’ houses). So, Aja and Jim’s union represents the slow forming of a new house, characterized by the blending of Earth and Akiridion customs.
They have two daughters.
Aja spends a lot of time worrying about how her first daughter will feel about being a royal and wondering if she herself will be a good parent. Jim does panic, but not quite so much. They decide to travel to Akiridion-5 for the birth, but the baby comes early and is subsequently born on Mothership in space. They name their daughter, Andromeda, but refer to her as ‘Andy’ more often than not. She grows up to be clever and rambunctious. Some would argue that her birth in space gave her a wanderer’s spirit, as she loves to go on adventures and explore.
Their second daughter is born within the safety and security of Akiridion-5. In part due to their first child’s complaints about having an overly-long name/her preference for a shortened version of it, Aja and Jim decide to name their second daughter, Lela.
As a child, Lela had a few more bouts of sickness than normal. None were particularly major or life-threatening, but did cause worry, as she is technically only the second Earthling-Akiridion hybrid to exist. So it was determined Lela would spend her childhood on Akiridion-5 (as that planet had a more advanced healthcare system) until the adults deemed her stable enough for space travel. Subsequently, and unlike her sister, Lela came to feel more connected to her Akiridion heritage and struggled to find a connection to Earth when she eventually traveled there.
12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?
Aja proposes to Jim immediately before he was going to propose to her. He set up this elaborate date (with help from his friends) of all their favorite things. It goes wonderfully. However, at the last minute, Jim begins to get cold feet. Aja, who’s figured out what’s going on by then, swoops in and asks him before he can chicken out.
They have two ceremonies. Both Jim and Aja prefer a quieter wedding shared only with family and close friends, so they have that one first (and it’s technically the Real One where they become married and all that too). However, they also have a larger ceremony that mostly exists to announce their union to their respective planets. Since they both hold rather public positions (Trollhunter and Queen-In-Waiting), various political figures deem it necessary.
Their honeymoon is them taking a small spaceship to explore wherever they want to go in space. They travel to all the planets they can and have a lot of adventures.
So I have this messed up idea for an Ajim AU. Basically, it's centuries later and they both married their respective human partners. Even had families with them. But their partners grew old without them and eventually passed. Their offspring, having troll and arkaridian lifespans, are still young children. They're both now single parents, dealing with the loss of their spouse and all the duties that come with being queen and trollhunter. And they get together at that point instead of as teens.
I like this idea :)
(I mean, people remarrying is a thing - I feel like any ship that involves Barbara in ToA implies that, so I think it can work in this situation too).
To make this work, maybe Aja’s the one who stays on Earth? Then later leaves to be Queen alongside Krel again.
She and Jim could have their respective children enrolled in the same school program (like a preschool for nonhumans? - okay just imagine troll, Akiridion, and various species children playing together on a playground, I like that mental image just saying).
Anyway, Aja and Jim’s kids become friends with each other, so they have to spend more time together because of playdates and things. Because of that, they eventually begin to really hit it off.
Both go through a period of denial (because they don’t want to outlive their loved ones again), but then they realize their lifespans are pretty similar, so they’ll get to grow old together.
