Black Noir being a shadow (his name is a tautology lol) was kind of a funny tongue in cheek thing in s1 and s2 while he lingers in the back of the setting as this weird stealth entity like Batman or whatever before we find out that he is actually a shadow of the person he used to be before he had part of his brain literally beat out of his head thereby silencing him and removing his ability to communicate the same way ever again. He is a shadow of the corruption that has always existed at Vought since it’s inception. He is a shadow of the traumas they inflict regularly not only on ordinary humans but the supes they create, groom, and employ. He exists as a shadow in the narrative itself.
And given that role, it’s interesting how Homelander killed him (or as far as we’re aware, tried to. No I’m not in denial.) considering how long and far Homelander’s own shadow of corruption and harm and silencing is cast.
