@wscldier asked: “ I don't recognize myself. ”
Steve watched Bucky’s face as those words fell from his mouth—quiet, almost broken. It hit Steve like a punch to the gut. There were bruises and scars he’d learned to live with, but this—this wasn’t something that could be patched up with time or tech or even trust. This was deeper. This was Bucky, his best friend, standing in front of him, wearing his own face like a stranger’s mask.
He stepped forward slowly, his voice low, steady, the way he used to talk to Bucky back when they were kids and the world seemed just a little too loud. “Maybe you don’t,” Steve said, his eyes never leaving Bucky’s. “But I do.” He wanted Bucky to hear that, to feel it. “I see the guy who used to pull me out of alley fights. I see the man who followed me into Austria because he believed in something bigger than himself. And yeah, you’ve been through hell. But you came back. That means something.”Steve didn’t pretend to understand all of it—the Winter Soldier program, the years stolen, the guilt that hung off Bucky’s shoulders like a second uniform. But he could carry part of it.
“You don’t have to fight to be who you were. Just be here. Be now. And if you can’t recognize yourself, let me remind you, as many times as it takes.” Steve’s voice cracked slightly, but he didn’t care. “You’re still my friend. You’re still Bucky. That’s enough.” And maybe it's not for the man before him. But it is for Steve. He spend so many years trying to figure out why he was alive. Why he was brought back. And then Bucky was there. And he knew. He could fight to defend the world, and also, save his friend. "I need you here, Buck."
( @fuckedhorror ) dallas > adelyn : “I’ll protect you with my life”
brows furrow, dark gaze locked on his as she reaches forward to cup his jaw tenderly. Adelyn shakes her head, bringing their faces closer until she's able to rest their foreheads together & eyes shut, breathing him in for a moment. " Dallas . . . " his name is spoken softly, noses bumping while they're huddled together in his room above his father's shop. this may not be the first place Cersei's guards will look for her but it certainly won't be the last & Adelyn knows that nowhere in King's Landing will be safe for her maybe nowhere in the Seven Kingdom's.
" i just lost my father & i refuse to lose you too. " pulling away to catch his eyes, Adelyn gives him the freedom to see the tears pooling, unafraid to be vulnerable like this in front of him. " your life is worth far too much to me for you to just throw it away, Dallas. " thumbs brush along his cheeks as she etches his face into her memory, she's afraid she may never see it again after tonight. " nothing is going to happen. Varys is waiting for me just outside the city . . . i'll be gone soon & you'll be safe. " even though her voice is steady, her lips still tremble with this goodbye she never truly thought they would ever have to go through this. leaning forward, Adelyn leaves a lingering kiss to the corner of his mouth, wanting nothing more than to have more time with him but forces herself to step away & move towards the door. " don't forget about me. "
