*hi key agree with your trilogy statement because panic! just ain’t doing it anymore and Paramore doesn’t get enough love for after laughter*
Yeah! That's kind of a big part of the point. Panic! has been a band just as long; their impact is definitely felt but they also are not relevant the way they were because they are not a they. And he isn't punk.
Paramore toured newer punk songs through this year but they're not in the conversation. Despite those songs being universally acclaimed. What. Is. Up. Kyle.
If I’m being honest we don’t talk enough about fob. Full offense
if im being honest. i only ever rlly liked folie a deux and srar and Also,, pete wentz is. sketchy. full offense
i can’t believe it’s 2019 and we’re having brendon urie vs ryan ross hotness discourse... like it’s ryan. pretty odd era ryan with the pink eyeshadow and awful moptop is peak teenage softboi idol and it’s great but cmon guys
hot take: let’s bring back og emo is the locust, botch, fugazi because bands like fob contributed to the commercialization and marketing of emo as a product to be consumed in a capitalist society, which defies emo in itself
fob isn’t even emo tho,, and emo doesn’t have a musical identity in itself it just depends on the band
maybe some people use emo to label their genre because they dont think alternative rock sums it up well enough? because alternative rock can include stuff like sonic youth, muse, and pavement but those bands are nothing like what a person could define emo as?
hottest take: splitting up rock music in a thousand genres is pointless cause every band, every album, every song sounds different and unless you have something that really makes it distinct (ex. hardcore punk is fast and aggressive and uses fry screams rather often) you can just say “I like alternative rock that kinda sounds like the black parade by mcr”. all of these genres at this point are basically “x is y but faster and z is x but distorted and t is a fusion of x y z and b” and it’s.. dumb
altho re: emo discourse post
all of that is true and all, but on the flip side it’s really sad to know that only the male bands get credited for all of this. like i know ye men explicitly expressing deep dark emotions in a v personal, morbid, depressing way while wearing girls skinny jeans and makeup and doing all kinds of homoerotic things was a mega significant period in the 2000s. but at the same time it was SO horrifying to see the fan treatment of either female-fronted bands or women closely associated w the musicians. you think fan treatment of 1d “girlfriends” is misogynistic??? boy thats nothing compared what happened in bandom.....and these girls weren’t even in the public eye doing promo every week they were just....girlfriends or ex girlfriends of band members who got slated viciously and slut shamed and attacked in every single fanfiction w/o ppl knowing fuck all about them. and there were so many amazing emo/pop punk bands with fucking awesome frontwomen who got written off straight away bc ppl (girls and guys) would always say “i just dont really like bands with female singers...theyre annoying” and they had to fade away even tho they were so talented........paramore must be the only band that escaped this and even so everybody hated hayley at one point or another just bc she’s female. hey monday were a rly cool band and when i stopped listening to pop punk and years later found out she was on the voice i was so!!!!! ARGH! she deserved better tbh like im glad she won the voice but if hey monday had a male frontman u can bet that shit wouldnt have happened
where were all of u when death of a bachelor came out
