7. a film released before 1970

OHHH i've got sooo many of these. i'm gonna go with 1959's the 400 blows, though!! this thing genuinely blew me away on the first watchthrough, it's SO good at looking at the story from a child's perspective without feeling condescending. definitely not a movie meant for kids but also never talks down to them even once. really hard balance to achieve, i think. i love love the camerawork in this one, too, it's so kinetic. it feels like an extension of the characters. anyways. this was my first french new wave movie and really got me into that genre!! i adore it <3

13. a film whose main genre is horror/thriller

the original suspiria is AMAZING and has some of the best visual direction i have ever seen in a movie. although i think what wowed me the most was that the visuals are sooo good that it outweighs the plot being like. Absolutely Nothing. like no joke this movie has one of the most straightforward and downright flimsy at times story when put on paper. it only serves to prop up the visual effects. one of the few example i can think of where style over substance works because, like. the style IS the substance. i could write so much on just the color symbolism in this thing alone. also the soundtrack RULESSS 🔥🔥
