why are his shoulder pads literal spikes

I mean slay ofc absolute peak fashion choice

but hAS HE STABBED ANYBODY ON ACCIDENT WHILE GIVING THEM A HUG

I know there's this scene but like

I can only imagine ryker getting stabbed by the spikes so many times he learns to hug him under the arms
