Thinking about one of the older newsies singing to the younger ones in the refuge because it's their first time there and they can't settle to sleep 🥺

Skittery stared out the window. The bars made it hard to see the stars, but it was the kid next to him who made it hard to see anything.

He rolled over despite the voices telling him no and saw the little shaking. Sniffling sobs even. It reminded him of Tumbler. He wanted to get out of here to see his little brother. But he was stuck with an imposter instead.

"Hey, kid." He said roughly, yet it held softness in it.

The kid froze out of fear, "S-sorry I-" "Don't care. Just get over here."

The small kid didn't move. And Skittery didn't want to get out of his bunk. So he scooted over and tapped the bed. The little looked at him and then slowly got out of bed with his torn-up blanket.

Once next to Skittery he smoothed out the blanket and lay flat on his back. Skittery felt like he was back at the lodge. With Tumbler.

"Got a name kid?"

"Leaf."

"Skittery."

They were both quite then. For a minute or so before the kid started to sniffle again.

"First time?" The kid not answering was enough to tell Skittery the truth. He remembers his first time. Dark, bloody, loud, and more voices.

"It's okay." He started, "If I's can get through it, then you's can."

"Y-yous been here before?" "Yeah. Not as much as a friend of mind. But I've done my share." He didn't want to get too personal, but something in him made it seem like he should.

"Ya need sleep ya know." "Can't." He sighed, he was really dragging himself into this, "How come?"

"Scared." Without even thinking Skittery rolled onto his side and held the kid in his arms. "Would this help?" The little shuffled a bit and ended up curled into Skitterys chest, "Yeah." He said quietly.

Although Skittery knew he needed a little more. So he began a melody. Something his mom used to sing to him when his dad got bad. Or when there was a storm. He would sometimes sing to Tumbler.

He just gripped the boy tighter as he sang. Skittery began to card his fingers through the littles hair, and it took everything in his power not to cry. He wanted both of them to be out. Even if he would have to break them out.

The kid slept soundly through the night and so did Skittery for once. But the next morning he promised the kid he would get him out along with him. He always kept his promises.

Which character you are most like: lowkey Skittery due to the fact how i headcannon him, BUT the way his depression or his body language is just me fr, hes trying his best everyday and has a family to come home too

Headcannons: For cannon I always love how Bumlets sleeps by the windows so one of his boyfriends gets to star gaze with him BC NO CURTAINS HELLO and for modern i say i love when specs and dutchy curl up with each other while watching Frankenstein as it rains

Fav Rarepair: Bumswiftery and Decs!!! they are my bbgs and i love them( in the 2000s part of the fandom they had skittery and snitch always together and i find that so fr sometimes)

Just wanted to offer a thought, Supernatural photographer Skittery? Who mayhaps befriends a few of the supernatural beings and dealing with backlash because some people think his photos are fake because this one damn cryptic keeps giving him the ✌️ in photos (Swiftys unhinged lol)

Finally able to answer this!! Been busy all day, but wanna know something funny, me and Chaos just made an au with Vampire Bumlets and Specs so it was very silly seeing this ask while talking about the new au

This is giving so hard trust! I can so see that, it also would be silly if Skittery caught feelings while looking at the pretty boys in the photos.

Could really see a frustrated Skittery yelling at Swifty to stop giving peace sign in every photo and Swifty listens once and perhaps his photos get more noticed over a short time then perhaps even evil scientist to add a bit of angst
