The glow from Celestia’s horn was almost blinding as she steadily rose the moon into the sky, the sun lazily dipping down and slowly disappearing behind the horizon. Juggling both celestial bodies at the same time required a lot of magical exertion, but it had soon become Celestia’s routine at dawn and dusk after many centuries alone. Finally, as the moon heeded her commands and started its route across the heavens, the alicorn huffed out a breath. 

A warm summer breeze blew past her, making her mane flutter wildly behind her and a bead of sweat from her exercise break from her pelt. Her body felt so, so heavy with exhaustion, and Celestia wanted nothing but to fall into a deep dreamless sleep, to leave behind all her worries and stress weighing her down. It would make the years pass by so much quicker, and when she woke up, her sister would be there. Smiling. Forgiving.

...The lack of proper sleep really was getting to her. Things would never go as smoothly as her fantasies. A heavy sigh left her, her body nearly collapsing onto the railing of the balcony. She couldn’t rest until everything was in place, until she found the element bearers, until Nightmare Moon had been purged from her sister. God, she hoped the Elements wouldn’t just banish her again. Or worse. Celestia couldn’t bear to have her sister end up like Discord, Tirek, or Sombra –

The princess’ spiralling thoughts were cut short when she suddenly heard a shuffle of hooves in the room behind her, Celestia’s head whipping around in a start and locking eyes with Sunset Shimmer, who seemed equally startled by her teacher's sudden movement.

“ S – Sunset Shimmer? ” Celestia winced at how shaky her voice sounded, hooves coming up to dab at her eyes in case she’d unconsciously shed some tears.

“ Why aren’t you in your chambers? The moon is up, so you shouldn’t stay up too late – ”

— 🍐 Pear Butter had been sent to do a delivery in Canterlot. Packing up her wagon with crates of apples and pears, she set off. Arriving at the train station, the conductor helped her wagon into the baggage cart. No way was she going to walk all the way there. After what seemed like forever on the train, the mare finally arrived in Canterlot. 

Wagon attached, she took off once again. On her way, she heard what seemed like sniffles and grumbles. Looking around at the trees, she noticed a young mare. Pear slowly walked over to her, “are you alright?” she asked.

A few weeks after moving to ponyville to learn about friendship and make some friends. Luster Dawn, having settled into her room within Twilights ponyville castle. She attends her classes and enjoys every hour of it. During her personal time, she’d practice her magic with either her mother Starlight Glimmer or by herself. Today, she was while her mother attended to a guest visiting the castle.

“I wonder if that one spell mother had written down would work well with this one I’ve cooking up?”

Wondering around the castle halls, Luster happens upon a room with one book of combat magic labeled with “caution.”

“Hmmm, I don’t think mother or her guest would mind me sneaking a peek into this book. I’ve never read about combat magic this advanced or powerful.”

               °☆.。 ❛  i’m  really  glad  you  could  meet  me  here  ,  sunset.  i  know  i  sprung  it  on  you  impromptu.  ❜  APOLOGIES  were  written  on  the  crooked  smile  that  graced  twilight’s  face.  lithe  fingers  danced  in  the  air  as  they  twined  &.  twisted  together  ,   only  to  flutter  down  to  cover  the  steam  rising  from  twilight’s  cup  of  tea  ,  never-mind  the  slight  STING.  °☆.。

             °☆.。 a  beat.  silence.  where  to  start?  and  HOW? °☆.。

             °☆.。 ❛  i  suppose  you  could  say  that  there  has  been  a  bit  ...  of  a  SHIFT  in  equestria.  or  at  least  ,  there  is  going  to  be.  it’s  a  matter  of  great  importance  and  i -...  i  wanted  to  make  sure  that  you  knew  ,  in  person.  ❜  another  pause.  time  to  rip  off  the  bandaid.  ❛  princess  celestia  and  princess  luna  are  stepping  down  from  the  throne. ❜  °☆.。

“Guess you could say somethin’ like that!” Spinel giggled, gladly accepting Sunset’s hand without a second thought. 

Rather than reaching out the, y’know, regular, human, length, her arm propelled itself forward like something straight out of a cartoon. A gloved hand gripped the others’- shaking vigorously. 

She was in a pretty darn good mood, if it wasn’t obvious enough. Just meeting a friendly stranger was enough to put a bit of extra pep in her step! 

So much pep, that is, that Spinel paid no mind to (or, rather, outright missed) Sunset’s fascination with her gemstone. Why focus on something so minute, anyway, when she had a brand spankin’ new friend to talk to? 

 “It’s a pleasure ‘ta meet’cha, Sunset Shimmer! Fun name, by the way! And I just LOVE your hair! It looks like everybody around here’s pretty fond ‘a wacky hairdos, though, so maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised!” 

“Don’t mind me, if you can! I’m just takin’ my time exploring Earth here and there; seein’ th’ sights! You’ve got yourselves a pretty LIVELY planet, I’ll say THAT much! NOTHING like Homeworld!”
