i love the distinctive provincialism of art from the severan period. one of my absolute favourite sculptural groups is located in the span of the arch of the argentarii — a couple: septimius severus and julia domna. i've grown fond of one particular natural detail: julia is taller than her husband — yet this somehow does not disrupt the harmony that prevails between them.
