      they’d been getting CLOSER. sami wasn’t used to this, enjoying someones company. but she LIKED JEAN, she liked spending time with him. she felt like she could talk with him, be herself around him. they often spent nights together, sleepy and happy. they were sat on her couch, watching a movie and being close. she glances over at him, eyes scanning over him. and then she shifts, turning so she is now sitting on his lap, knees resting on either side of his hips. she smiles at him, head tilting down. 

       “you seemed DISTRACTED.” she teases, softly chuckle passing her lips.

          they glance down at the drink held out towards them, then back up to the stranger standing before them. head is tilted to the side ever so slightly at the gesture. they move to begin signing, catching themselves before they can, and instead fish out the pen and notepad kept in their coat. the following message is scrawled quickly: “what are you doing?”

just kinda, gently pulls him in for a hug. doesn't say anything, just buries his face in elliot's shoulder and stays there for a while

          this was… new.  the empath wasn’t ever affectionate, or rather it was typically covered with several layers of sarcasm or abrasive humor.  he tensed at the touch, waiting for an inevitable rush of pain reverbing through his skull, his powers linking the two of them with the skin to skin contact.  but it never came.  this wasn’t a cry for help, of someone needing elliot to lessen their burden.  it was just someone being grateful, showing love.  slowly, slowly elliot wrapped his arms around jean’s waist, tugging the smaller man closer.  with a shaky exhale, he gives a tight squeeze and lets the moment simmer without saying a word.

      it didn’t happen OFTEN. but sometimes the emotions she forced to pile up became too much. it was almost IMPOSSIBLE for her to work herself down. her breathing was heavy, sporadic. hands SHOOK and sobs wracked her frame. most of the items in the room were reduced to ASH, spread around the room in disarray. she sat on the floor, knees drawn into her chest with eyes closed. she tried so hard to breathe and calm down - but it felt as if it would never happen. 

      when she heard the door open, she glanced up at it, eyes meeting jeans for a moment. eyes close once more and the door SLAMS CLOSED, preventing him from entering further. she couldn’t let him see her like this - she couldn’t let anyone see her like this. and she didn’t want him to FEEL IT, any part of it. 

      “g-go - just LE - LEAVE me alone!!”

        she laughs, popcorn flinging out of her hand and towards the other. “DUDE, lighten up. a smile looks GOOD on you. you just gotta - y’know - smile.” she grins a moment before stuffing more popcorn in her face.

          he would like to say that he was surprised to see jean sitting in the waiting room, but he’s really not.  elliot politely excuses himself from the conversation with his coworkers he’s half listening to, and crosses the floor to the very familiar face staring back at him.  once he stops by jean’s chair he drops down to a crouch, resting his clipboard on his knees.  “ for once, for once, could you keep out of trouble? ”  voice was kept to a gentle whisper, as he scanned the room for any odd glances.  even if this was a regular occurrence, he didn’t want it to seem like one.
