One word: Inspirational
To Surcease From Empowerment
Many people see “quitting” as a way of exerting power. They view a complex situation as “powerless” & feel that the only way to show power and/or control is to quit. Yet as Foucault stated, “Power is not an institution nor a strength we are endowed with; it is the name that one attributes to a complex strategical situation in a particular society.”
Our momentary ineptitude at traversing a complex strategical situation causes us great frustration and presents an encumbering challenge. We "feel" panicked and unsure of ourselves. We say things like, "This is too much for me right now." or "I don't know what to do. " or "I can't take this." It is these moments which test our mettle. It is also in these moments which we exploit and present our deep set cognitive biases, using them as a rationalization for running away from the momentarily challenging situation. Adverse situations show the kinks in our character. Our reactions are our true nature.
Many times we will say, "It's not like me to quit something." However, we are what our actions present. We must take accountability for what we do in moments of adversity. If it is not in our nature to quit, then we won't. The caveat to our statement should be, "Until now, I have never been presented with a situation which challenged me to a point where I allowed quitting to become an option out of fear."
Quitting doesn’t solve anything, it merely delays the inevitability of having to face the same challenge later on in life. As with most unresolved challenges, they come at us from different angles until we truly deal with the issues within us that encourage these challenges to manifest.
True power comes from being able to traverse these situations via critical thinking. Critical thinking infused with honor, integrity, dignity and discipline. Seeing it through to a moment where the complexity of the situation is rendered moot by our comprehensive thought process.
The seemingly impassable situation is merely a chance to recognize the value of integrous action while using creative, comprehensive and critical thought processes to find a solution. By finding a solution, we ascend from our self-imposed plateau and move forward with more knowledge, fortitude and life experience.
Stop quitting and start problem solving.
