maomao is really good at lying to herself meanwhile jinshi is incapable of lying to himself and the dichotomy is intriguing. jinshi spent years as a eunuch and doesnt know nor care that he is the imperial son. maomao represents a place where he can truly drop all pretenses and not have to use his looks to get what he wants. maomao realizes jinshi is someone she can depend on, someone who is a source of warmth and constantness in her life. maomao especially values those who show up for her, more than people who just happen to be in her life.
Synopsis : Lady Gyokuyou made you a lady in waiting a couple years ago to stop you from getting married off and leaving her, but with mao mao joining the jade pavilion to work for your lady, you can't help but get jealous of how close she is with your boyfriend.
an: Sorry if this is inaccurate! I've never written for Apothecary Diaries and I only watch the anime.
an: fluff! Suggestive, not proofread, im gonna end my shi🤞🏿
The sun shone brightly above in the sky, it was a very fine evening, no clouds, just blue sky. It was slightly humid inside but nothing you couldn't handle.
Whilst wiping down the banister, cleaning for dust, you see a whisp of forest green hair, your eyes widen.
"Maomao!"
You suddenly call out to the girl, suprised that you had accidentally said it out loud instead of in your head.
"Yes, y/n?" She showed signs of urgency, perhaps she was wrapped in another mystery and trying to get away from everyone so she could focus.
"Uh," you start. Before realising that you didnt know why you called her name.
'Shit. I didn't think that far' you mentally scold yourself.
"Good morning!" You blurt, hoping you don't look like a fool. "Good morning. Now that all? I really have to be going now." Maomao had already started to turn around and start walking.
"Do you like Matser Jinshi?"
"Yeah, sure" she replies, not paying much attention to the question because shes in a hurry, running off to go find Jinshi.
You feel a tiny ounce if jealousy start to form.

It was now around night-time, you slipped out of the Jade Pavillion and into the outer court of the palace, then into Jinshi's room, silently and not waking anyone.
Lightly tapping his chest, you try to wake him.
"Baby..you remember that we were supposed to meet in the evening. You didn't show."
"....the..Apothecary.." he was still half asleep so he started to babble on about his day. You begin to feel a subtle quiet fury growing, for the 5th time this fortnight, your date with your boyfriend had been canceled or you had been stood up over Maomao.
You knew Jinshi was a very busy man so you had specifically gotten a copy of his schedule so that you wouldn't have to constantly cancel. Maomao could just show up whenever and it was excused. If you were to do that, Lady Hongniang would have your head and claim that you were slacking off of work to sneak away and be scandalous with your imaginary lover, (only the emperor, gaoshun, and your mother know you both are dating).
"Why must I need to schedule weeks in advance to see you, but that- that Apothecary can come in whenever!"
It wasnt even like you hated Maomao. You found her sweet and she was fun to hang out with.
"Y/N!" He whispers yells as he gets up. He had tried tk chase after you but ended up tripping over his blanket. You huff, pushing the beautiful man off of you, storming away.
You refuse to visit for the next 3 weeks, despite your lady informing you every day that "Master Jinshi has been rather anxious to see you"
This time your lady had told you whilst you were multitasking chatting and sweeping, you had trouble sleeping and eating since then, guilt eating you alive "Tell him that I am busy." You mumble, clenching the broomstick.
"Do you really hate me that much, y/n?"
A tall, beautiful eunuch appears through the front doors.
That voice makes you stiffen.
In a different context, it would be melting your heart, but not now. "Yinghua, please sweep this room, i'm feeling sick now so i must leave!-"
You start speedwalking out of the room, trying to avoid confrontation, but Jinshi grabs your waist, basically manhandling you into a secluded room.
"Let me go! You brute!" You practically hiss, you then see Maomao approaching but she freezes, unshure if she should help you, deciding that she would probably be punished for it, she ignores you too and goes back to work.
You spot your father, Gaoshun with an annoyed, yet tired sigh as he watches his daughter and his young master. 'I wish they wouldn't cause such a scene where anyone could see them'. He thinks to himself, shuffling further into the corner.
"Father! Save me!" You yelp before a loud slam of the door is heard from outside.
Jinshi tosses you onto the couch gently, since they are made of wood. "Let me go! You stupid- beautiful, muscle brained idiot!"
The amethyst haired man chuckles, grabbing your face with care and kissing you deeply, climbing on top of you, his tongue slips inside of your mouth. You both fight for dominance in the kiss, but your lover ultimately wins.
Panting, he starts to kiss along your neck. "Are you really jealous of her? You know I only love you. I'm sorry if i made it seem like otherwise." Your jealousy dampens ever so slightly. He sucks on your collar, placing a hickey.
"Im still upset..can we talk-" you whine when he nibbles your sensitive part on your neck. "Later." Jinshi murmurs into your ear.

little yelps are heard throughout the building, before Jinshi walks out, stepping down the stairs, sweaty and hair slightly frazzled, his clothes ruffled just a bit.
"Gaoshun, let's go!" Jinshi cheerfully calls out, practically skipping down the hall. "Did you.." Gaoshun feels his eye twitch, protective over his daughter.
"When we get back.." he almost growls. But, being the responsible adult he is, he masks his anger and straightens up Jinshi before bowing to Gyokuyou and leaving, silently fuming.

(Extra!)
You leave the room hours later, limping just a tad and hickeys and bruises everywhere. Pulling the collar of your hanfu to hide your neck, rushing to your room to find your makeup.
Unbeknownst to you, Gyokuyou is in your room with the rest of the ladies, including Maomao who start to squeal, giggle and gasp at the sight of you.
"Girls! No! This isnt what it seems!" You try to defend your dignity.
Lady Hongniang glares before grabbing your harshly, "You're slacking off, and you have a lover!' She shakes you aggressively
Lady Ailan hugs your waist "Who is it!?"
You're then jumped by all of the ladies, including Gyokuyou.
Let's just say, whenever Jinshi visits the Jade Pavillion now, everyone snickers and he always gets confused.

Guys i didnt forget the requests theyre like halfway written! Also ask to be on taglist!
Holy woah that was terrible im gonna kms everybody gotta go💔💔
I just binged s1 of Apothecary Diaries and I fucking love it. Random things I love in no particular order
Maomao being the only one that Jinishi's sparkle effect doesn't work on and it upset him
She tries to actively poison herself for science
I'm so used to female rivalries in anime, the fact that the 3 Princesses of the brothel all get along, love Maomao, are her surrogate big sisters is so good.
Same for the concubines for the most part. Gyokuyou and Lithua get along (I mean after that whole thing in the first few episodes), even with Gyokuyou being the favorite. They both like Maomao and requested her to teach a lesson on sex.
The lesson on sex XD
The fact that although Maomao doesn't want to be a courtesan she still respect their work.
Jinshi always showing up when it's inconvenient. The "are you having fun without me?" "I assure you I am not having fun."
The banter btwn Maomao and Jinishi like as above.
The fact he calls her Kusuriya except when she got injured in the ceremony thing and then he called her by her name. (god he has it bad)
Gaoshun. I don't believe I need to elaborate.
Maomao making Lihaku strip down to asses if he's good enough for Pairin and was nonchalant about all of it.
How she totally played Lakan.
That the only faces Lakan sees are Maomao and her mother's.
The Prologue and Epilogue mirror each other. The Prologue depicts the moment when a young Yoh traps Ah-Duo by choosing to make her his bedmate, while the Epilogue suggests that history is repeating itself: the prince follows in his father’s footsteps by attempting to force Maomao into a similar cage.
The final part of the Epilogue also shows the consequences of Yoh’s actions. He imprisoned Ah-Duo and was ultimately punished for it. He obtained the woman and the son he wanted, but he could never truly have either of them. He was forced to give up Ah-Duo because she lost her womb and became “useless” to the Empire, while his son was officially made his brother, meaning Yoh could never acknowledge him as his own.
The myth I discussed here https://www.tumblr.com/augustinamiaumiau/781535647390416896/the-myth-of-vega-and-altair-and-how-it-relates-to also serves as a warning about what their future could look like if nothing changes. In my previous post, I focused on a lot of unnecessary details, but I now think the reason Natsu included the myth was because the lovers end up together in Heaven, yet they are still separated by a river. Jinshi, who represents the princess in the story, can bring Maomao, the commoner, into the heavens that is, into the imperial family, but they would still remain emotionally separated, symbolized by the river.

The Epilogue forces the two of them to communicate and sets off a chain reaction that moves the plot forward. In Volume 6, Jinshi finally asks Maomao how she feels about him and about the possibility of marrying him. Maomao says that her main concern is Gyokuyou, prompting Jinshi to brand himself. As a result, he is sent back to the Western Capital alongside Maomao, where they finally end up together.
