Do what you need to do! I'm considering not writing reader insert fics anymore because its so so difficult writing for a faceless, historyless, descriptionless person than it is than writing for someone I can flesh out and be happy with.
thank you! i think you should do what you makes you happy as well! if that means writing out an OC then, by all means, do it. i think it’ll be a lot more fun and fruitful for you as a writer to try your hand at fleshing out your own character than trying to keep things so vague to where it feels like you have to bend over backwards trying to keep things as ambiguous as possible. like why limit yourself, you know? i was actually considering switching tense, but baby steps ^^”
