The Residency in the Garden threw the first Garden Party of the 2015 season on June 19th featuring work by Andrew Barton and Em Young. Artisanal sweets were crafted by Secret Restaurant as part of Andrew Barton’s week-long Greenhouse Residency, next to the double-side embroidered work of Em Young’s month-long Garden Residency. The event began just before sunset, allowing time to highlight the edible crafts of Andrew Barton paired by chilled white wine donated by Amity Vineyards. As the sunlight shifted Em Young’s work came out highlighted by dripping white lights and the soft vocals of Billie Holiday playing on vinyl. Photo credit: Peter Schweitzer

E M  Y O U N G

Artist, Em Young, completed a month long Garden Residency and was one of the two artists shown in The Residency’s First Showcase held on June 19th 2015. In her project, Em utilized The Garden for focused, intentional work removed from any use of technology. This was a practice in presence, in letting go, and in allowing a space to drive the act of making. What was left were drawings in thread-fragile moments of clarity. For Em’s Artist Bio look here!
