The Residency in the Garden threw the first Garden Party of the 2015 season on June 19th featuring work by Andrew Barton and Em Young. Artisanal sweets were crafted by Secret Restaurant as part of Andrew Barton’s week-long Greenhouse Residency, next to the double-side embroidered work of Em Young’s month-long Garden Residency. The event began just before sunset, allowing time to highlight the edible crafts of Andrew Barton paired by chilled white wine donated by Amity Vineyards. As the sunlight shifted Em Young’s work came out highlighted by dripping white lights and the soft vocals of Billie Holiday playing on vinyl. Photo credit: Peter Schweitzer

During Andrew Barton’s week-long Greenhouse Residency, the Greenhouse functioned as Studio and Kitchen. Inside, Andrew edited his forthcoming cookbook, “Myrtlewood,” and hosted Secret Café. Secret Café was an iteration of a super club Andrew has been hosting for the past ten years called Secret Restaurant. This week-long installation invited one to two participants to create a lunch with Andrew from Elizabeth David’s book, “Summer Cooking.” The Greenhouse as Kitchen was part of the Residency’s First Showcase held on July 19th 2015, with food catered by Andrew’s Secret Restaurant.
