I was home schooled from 2nd-12th grade, and graduated at 17.
My parents didn't have any weird reasons for home schooling, it was just that the schools in our area were awful and they didn't want to move to a bigger city. Plus, they saw that I learned a little bit differently than everyone else. Mom is an English teacher, Dad is a software engineer (with a BA in German and a BA in computer science) so they were just like, "let's help her learn at her own pace."
At first, I utterly despised it.
But now, as I get ready to finish my first semester of grad school and I'm 21, I'm glad they did that with me and my siblings.
Because some things, like English, history, and earth sciences I picked up on quickly. Math was never a strong suit. My brother is dyslexic, but is a math genius, and he's been able to work around his learning disability. My sister has a blood clotting disorder and if she went to a public school, she'd be missing a lot because of hospital stays and doctors appointments. She's also heavy into writing, music, and visual art, and she's able to channel her talents.
I know a lot of people are religious nuts or are paranoid about what their kids are learning, but for us, it was just a good experience. Mainly because we're all different and learned differently, and our parents saw that.
