Do you think the Night Force deserves its own DC Universe show in conjunction to Titans and Doom Patrol? Could make an exquisite substitute to Swamp Thing.
The comics fan in me is going “oh abso-fucking-lutely” But the tv fan in me who’s more practical is going “eeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh”.
Bc there also needs to be a discussion abt which Night Force we’re talking about here! Because it totally depends for me!
Swamp Thing has taught us we can have a truly amazing, horror-filled, cinematic experience with mystic characters. And I certainly believe that the original team/run? Would benefit greatly from being brought to life in a live-action limited series. Nothing that needs to span several seasons. Just a quick, 10-12 ep special that covers a plot thread from one of the runs, tells its story, hints at something greater, but ends satisfyingly enough that it doesn’t need to be explored further. A Planned, Limited Series.
Now for the next gen team from Daughter of Darkness? I’ve said it months ago and still stand by it: they’d benefit the most from a classic, monster-of-the-week animated series.
Story-tellingwise, it’s the perfect way to introduce these lesser known characters to a new audience. To develop them in a medium that all of them (with the exception of Raven obviously) have never been part of before.
Then there’s the fact that there’s just so much more you can DO with animation, with the right crew and the right vision. Magic is absolutely something that should be brought out as artistically & cinematically as possible. And not that Hollywood magic isn’t up to the task, but when I think of all of the breathtaking things that animation has accomplished over the years, I’d simply rather go with a story told in that format.
And considering that it’d likely be more cost effective (animation is typically a smaller risk/bigger return) to invest in than a live-action series, while simultaneously being something new/genre-specific/totally unique from what they’ve already produced. It’s honestly one of my ‘this is JUST outside the realm of Possibility’ wishes. The only thing stopping it from happening is the fact that this team & these characters are so goddamn obscure, it would take a really good pitch team+all the stars aligning to convince DCU to properly invest in something like them.
Do they deserve it? I mean. I think so. But that’s because I’m biased and want to see more mystics & magic explored in DCTV & Animation.
