Riding the transit back to the ground, its hard to believe they actually made it. The students out of the Halfway to Heaven, the Yamiki is wilting and shrinking behind them, and the ground is only seeming larger and more populated by the second.
And its not like they expected anybody to be waiting for them when the train dropped them off, but...there wasn’t. Everybody else seems so separated...they have other things to attend to.
Pauwau notices it first.
A procession of metal, marching in tandem, about half a mile away.
They’re carrying something, something large, and heavy. Running closer, its clear what this is.
A funeral for AI-Sho. She gave the rest of her life away to help the class. The only thing remaining in the glass storing her soul is an empty husk.
A somber note to end on, but at least there’s a note at all. The class looks back to the tree that had ruined their lives to much, and watch as it completely disappears into an ashy cloud.
