Desireless

To have no desires is one of the pillars of many major religions. Having no desires will lead to the path of enlightenment, secrets of the universe, reality, truths, heaven, and spiritual peace! Of course, the goal of not having any desires has many rules, procedures, rituals, and practices!

Can a desire end another desire? Can a desire to have no desires end all desires? Can a desire erase another desire out of existence? This is similar to: can a green color erase another green color? All that will happen is that one shade of green will take the place of the other shade of green. When one desire erases another desire, all that will happen is that another desire will take the place of the other desire.

It will become a game of leapfrog! One desire becoming another. A desire to end all desires can never erase, nor end all desires!

What then is the process to really get rid of desires? Basically, it is to understand desire. To understand and to be touched deeply and not intellectually. I have a friend who can not stop herself from buying the newest wok even though she has shelves full of woks! She just likes them. She does not try to understand the causes for her desires to buy more woks that she will never use!

Desires have a seed to their existence and that seed has been covered up from a lifetime of experiences! Find that seed and the seed will dissolve on its own! No desire is needed to find the seed! Just watching and being aware! Watch deeply without blinking! Face to face! Not as facing a memory, but facing the seed directly as it is activating itself! The desire wants to live and to express itself! Just watch it as it is unfolding and happening! Watch in the heat of the desire! Touch its flames and the flames will dissolve right before your eyes! The end of desires!

Uncovering the Triggers

Uncovering a trigger to our emotional reactions is a lot more than the shallowly labelling.  I know that if I lose my wallet, I will be upset, worried.  Oh, if my lover leaves me, I will be upset, hurt.  My team loses and I am sad, or my team wins, and I am happy and excited.  Uncovering is more.

Uncovering is to find the first seed that sprouted this path of emotional reactions.  When you see a mighty oak tree, do you imagine the seed that started all these branches and leaves?  All these branches and leaves are all your emotional reactions.  Uncovering that seed is when that seed is perceived and then it is done, the entire tree goes away allowing for a more beautiful life to grow and to prosper unhindered.

When you uncover you just see, not judging, not saying it is right, nor wrong, not good, nor bad.  You just perceive the seed.  Most people only perceive the leaf and its twig.  That is all and so they think that is all there is.  Not noticing the gigantic tree that supports and nourishes that little twig and leaf.

Uncovering means do I really need that what has happened?  Then you start to notice that you are something else than these reactions and triggers.  You find rest.  You find a rock.  You find peace.  You find a stillness.  You find laughter.

The Ending of Desires

How do desires come about?  How does our brain create desires?  Desires are add-ons to our mental processes.  Desires are not a part of our human nature.  We are not born with desires.  Desires we have created.  When desires are extinguished forever, emotions will still remain.  Emotions are our nature, just as much as our arms, legs, toes, fingers and other appendixes are.  We will still live a life full of emotions.  We just will not have desires.

A desire comprises of a memory and an emotion. The memory is of an experience with an emotional reaction.  How many times have you become aware of a thought that was prompted by an emotion?  It is usually a lingering emotion that is bothering you, gnawing away, and a thought pops up.  A thought, or many thoughts that all are linked to this certain emotion.  

A memory is triggered easily when one is in a similar mental condition, or environment, real or imagined.  Pop! The emotion surfaces from its depth.

Emotions are easily and effortlessly set off.  Emotions have a hair-triggered wire.  Imagine emotions as loose electrons (easier to imagine than a dopamine molecule), just barely bundled up.  Does not take much to set them off, a little bit at first and then, before you know it, a rush of them flooding throughout all your entire brain.  A maddening, uncontrollable rush!

The actual physical activity creates the emotional sensations.  The physical act of eating a delicious desert, or having sex, or jogging, or any other activity, the electrons of emotions are released.  Your emotions. In the physical act, your emotion is released.  This is the reason that emotions are a part of your body just as much as your arms, legs, toes, fingers, and other appendixes are.

Now, what kicks these electrons of emotions loose to go wild throughout your brain?  Well, if you use the analogy of the universe expanding at all planck points, then this force is kicking the electrons loose.  How does this force “know” which electron to kick loose as there are many emotions and many other electrons to kick loose? Your memory is directing this expanding force into the pathway leading to the specific, particular electrons. The expanding universe is not only reading your thoughts, but is also obeying them.

You can stop it from obeying,  Just tell it to stop and it will.  You are not your memories.  You are not your memories of your experiences.  Perceive this, not intellectually, but perceive and it will obey.

The Meaning of Life

Finding the Meaning of Life is very straightforward once I understand its criteria.  I look around the world, either on a global scale, or my country, or city, or neighborhood, or my family and friends, and I see what has happened, is happening and ponder what will be happening.  I know that I am taking up space and have used up resources.  I ask myself,  "Did I put it all to good use or will it all vanish when I turn into dust?"

Meaning means something that is left behind, not remembered by, but leaving some mark.  Every physical thing will eventually disappear into an exploding sun.  All that hard work into building a career, fame, wealth, and popularity means nothing when the world ends.  I know that eventually every civilization, every human story, development and advancement will dissolve.  There's nothing permanent to be found there.

The only permanent to me is me.  Not the thoughts of me, not the experiences and memories of my life, friends, and family.  These are all stored in the brain and because they are all neuron connections and pathways and they are physical, they too will disappear.  There's no meaning to be found there.

Having a belief, reading and memorizing will also go to the same fate: disappears.  A belief is simply adding ideas, just like knowledge, stored in the physical brain.  All gone with the body.

The only meaning I can find is the ending of my desires.  The ending of my desires will physically change the stucture and pathways of my brain.  Even though the body with all its neurons and pathways will disappear with my body, the changes made to me while alive will lead me down to a destiny and awakening that is not available when desires governed my existence.  The ending of my desires awakens me to a new world and this is truly the meaning of life: experiencing  that which is not experienced through hands of desires.
