Vincent Van Gogh’s The Night Café happens to be one of my favorite impressionist paintings. There’s so much that can be said about how it captures that evening scene, and how it reflects our human emotions. Liverpool four piece The Night Café does something similar but with music, and they’ve long become a prominent force in the UK pop rock scene after two EPs. Their latest single Endless Lovers is the first piece of material to surface since the latter EP, Bunkbed, which was released in summer last year. They build on the foundation they previously forged by embracing the darker nuances of their sound, while still regaling us with their driving backbeat, epic crescendos, bittersweet musings, and sharp melodies. Speaking about the track, frontman Sean Martin said: "For me, Endless lovers has an important message that you should sort of ‘check yourself before you wreck yourself’ in a relationship. You can feel like everyone around you and your significant other is against you, and you just want to push them away. The song was written from a hypothetical point of view, but also I did feel like that at the time, with no valid reason - apart from my head just being fucked.” 2019 is going to be The Night Café’s biggest year yet as the band prepares to release a debut album this summer. They’ll also be touring arenas with The Wombats, supporting Circa Waves on their UK tour, and have already joined numerous festival lineups. Stream/purchase Endless Lovers, here.
