“Are you alright?”

Koschei didn’t mean to sound rude— he was on his way home from work to his boyfriend, he literally ran into her, and she seemed... Familiar in a way that he couldn’t place. And he was staring. Where did he know her from? School? Maybe?

“Sorry. I was just, uh.“ He got up, offered a hand to her to get them both out of the way of the busy sidewalk. That way neither of them would get trampled— the city was killer like that. “I wasn’t paying attention. Are you okay?”

the doctor meant nothing to them, not after what their father had done, what he’d become, and they launched themself at her, knocking her to the ground, their knees on her chest and their fist flying at her face, wanting to feel her bones break just as their own had done, over and over and over again.

Second Chances

To say that HYDRA was still around was underestimating just how much of a toll the snap had taken on them. There were still pockets of them around, still some bit of structure but really, there were just people left. People who had lost families, people who had lost themselves, and people who had lost everything far before the snap.

Viper, Viper was one of those last ones. Having nothing left to lose made something so big seem so incredibly insignificant. Lives were lost, of course, but Viper saw people die every day, hell, she killed people often enough. But without the people, there was no structure, no base, no real backbone in the only place that had ever been her home.  

That didn't stop her from following orders, however. 

The people who had taken over her branch were ambitious, power-hungry, and while she had little issue with what they were doing, she still felt they were no fit for the lead of HYDRA. Still, she was a soldier if nothing else and she did as she was told, though her rank had become higher than a mere field agent due to the loss of so many agents. This promotion somehow left her with being a far more trusted member of HYDRA and throughout the years after the snap and consequentially, ended up with her being the one chosen for a very important mission.

HYDRA had learned of the Avengers plan to make a gauntlet to house the Infinity Stones since Thanos' had been destroyed from the initial snap and, fearing that the Avengers would use the stones for more than just bringing the lost people back, they set in motion a plan to get the gauntlet into their possession. Viper was trusted to be the one to sneak in and get the gauntlet while others were sent to create a distraction large enough for the Avengers to hopefully expend their limited resources, hoping that this would give Viper an advantage and allow her to retrieve said gauntlet. 

Only, they very obviously hadn't though the plan all the way through and while most of the Avengers were preoccupied with the distraction caused by HYDRA, there would obviously be at least one Avenger to stay in the compound. Unsure of whether or not she could handle an Avenger, even as an Inhuman, Viper made sure to make her way carefully through the compound after a team had disabled the security system of the compound. She didn't have much time to find out where the gauntlet was being held but she quickly made her way into Tony Stark's workplace where she easily found where the gauntlet was. 

Only, it wasn't alone. 

Captain America stood in the room talking to a woman that Viper didn't recognize. Knowing they were more than likely discussing the breach (because obviously, you couldn't breach Tony Stark's security without there being some sort of failsafe), she watched as the woman left the room and the gauntlet was left alone with just Captain America. 

She wouldn't have to fight him long, she would just need to get close enough to grab a hold of the gauntlet and then she could easily teleport out of the facility without a problem. The only issue was getting past Captain America. There was no doubt to her that he was stronger than her but Viper knew she could use her speed and size to her advantage. After all, ordinary people had stood their own against Captain America before.

Taking in a breath, Viper finally slid into the room and gained the attention of Captain America. The fight was quick and hard, Viper finding herself having a hard time keeping up with him even with all her training and own ability. Within just a few moments, he had her on the floor with her arms pinned behind her back and her cheek pressed against the cold metal of the floor.

She, of course, refused to tell him anything as she heard footsteps nearing the room from the exit the woman had taken. Carefully, so as not to allow her any movement once so ever, Captain America dragged her up and onto her knees.

Really, you try to do one nice thing for someone and it blows up in your face, like marrying an old school chum just to steal portions of his TARDIS and strand him in the middle ages....” she shook her head and shifted her hold on the cake tin (her arms were growing tired of carrying it and her stomach growled for want of food).
