Some people don’t agree with an HGV ban on London’s roads. Maybe this will convince you...
This video was featured on the news last night and in the London Evening Standard today. It shows perfectly why HGVs are so dangerous for cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists alike.
London's narrow roads were not made for HGVs: You can see the truck turning and having to drive up the wrong lane due to its size, completely oblivious of anybody who might be coming or crossing the road, due to the massive blind spot this vehicle has.
Surely if an ordinary car had the same amount of visibility from its front windscreen, it would not even be allowed on the road. So why do we allow huge vehicles that can see bugger all, to drive on small residential roads?
The video was shot on Peckham Road which I cycle up and down regularly. This could have easily been another tragic death and it could have just as easily been me on my bike.
