41 years ago today End of the Century is the fifth studio album by the American punk rock band Ramones, released on this day in 1980 includes the singles "Baby, I Love You" and "Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio?" A pop-up artists' books and zines display organized by Marshall Korshak. End of Century was a chic boutique that heralded the gentrification of the Lower East Side. In this pop-up, zines are absorbed into the fashion-art scene, just like any other product such as dresses and handbags.

Information sharing is in the midst of its greatest transformation since the advent of the printing press.

As the core of the media system shifts towards digital, independents and artists are reacting by creating a new wave of works on paper. 

This re- found interest is what motivated Death of Print, a platform for artists to sell their independently published artist books, zines, and other printed media.

Collection I will be Death of Print’s first installation. It will be built at the Lower East Side concept store End of Century, an unconventional platform for creatives that is staged as showroom, store, salon, and exhibition space.

The space and its contents are fluid, where everything is impermanent and available for exchange. Con los años uno se vuelve (aún) más señorito y me da pereza enorme mancharme los dedos buscando en cajones de rastros y tiendas benéficas. También desde hace unos años decidí no comprar más discos en formato 12" pero al final la cabra tira al monte y no he podido resistir curiosear en una montonera que había en una tienda benéfica. A pesar de prometerme no comprar más LPs es imposible resistirse a los Ramones, aunque tengas el “End of the century” da igual, nunca son suficientes copias en casa. Además, no tenía ninguno con una pegatina de “Abracadabra”, lo que parece ser que fue un sitio muy molón en Banús.

CAVE COLLECTIVE at END OF CENTURY

Initiation 

    An exhibition by Cat Lauigan and Alex Wolkowicz of Cave Collective. Cave collective's inaugural show at End of Century, Initiation, draws inspiration from ritualistic practices.  Cave collective works with drawing, photography, sculpture, lighting and sound to create sensory, enigmatic environments. They draw inspiration from the elements, natural forms, found objects, raw materials, light and color.

All contents of the exhibition with be for sale - from the morpheus stone rings (pictured above), to the woven baskets, to whatever surprises Cave Collective has in store.  

The opening night of Initiation will also feature the launch of their zine and preview of their collaborative film project 'Sun Ceremony', directed by Adrienne Subia.  Sound artists Maria Chavez, Goitia Deitz, Aquarium Life, Some Ember, Dolera Yoro, ROBERTS, La Jeune Fille Ancienne,  Jon Barraclough, Marcia Bassett, Camilla Ha & Thermos Unigarde, Nathan Thompson and Nicholas Nauman, contributed sound pieces for the exhibition, which will be played opening night. 

  Initiation will open at End of Century on Friday, September 7th from 7-9PM.
