I really enjoyed some daddy/daughter time last night, cwtching with Dad, eating cheese and crackers, drinking and abundance of tea, and watching @neilhimself Good Omens, our new favourite show, after a week of highs (playing my first ever guitar concert!) and lows (two days of palliative care clinic and end of life care planning). It’s this type of quiet, simple love and support I most appreciate about my dad and I’s relationship (also, his sense of humour!). He’s my rock, and my hero. It’s been really tough on him lately since he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and started on chemo, but he’s getting there. After all, I get my stubbornness at least 50% from him! I’ve had a lovely morning, but this afternoon my Ty Hafan Family Support Worker is visiting to help me start writing an up to date End Of Life Care Plan. It needs to be done, and I’ll feel better when it is, but it’s still hard. So today’s theme for Dying Matters Week is memorialisation, and I just happened to have a meeting with my Ty Hafan Family Support Worker to discuss my end of life care plan. That resulted in me spending an hour or so in the garden this evening writing down everything to do with my dying, death and funeral that came to mind. I stopped when I started to get a bit upset. For as long as I can remember, anything I’ve written like this has gone in my butterfly 🦋 notebook 📒. I’ve had it since I was 14 and writing my first set of care plans. I think it’s incredibly important that I have a safe place where I can write down all these thoughts 💭 and also that my loved ones know where to find these thoughts, should they need to read them. I ended up writing something that sums up my attitude to memorialisation.
