It’s the last day of Dying Matters Week!! Today’s theme is about diversity and inclusion, an incredibly important theme. Everyone and anyone should feel supported and understood on their journey through life, but this is especially important for those journey towards death. I’ve seen several excellent videos and discussions, on subjects varying from being Muslim, LGBTQ+, being a young adult, and being a person of colour. To see these excellent discussions, I recommend searching the hashtag on twitter! In my case, I represent something fairly new to the world of palliative care; a young adult who’s grown up knowing she was dying. I’ve had a lot of interesting discussions, and even disagreements, with my adult palliative care team over the years... and it’s usually because they’re just not used to working with young people who have such a complete understanding of the palliative care world. But the good thing about my team is that they’ve been willing to listen, and to learn. As someone who’s a gobby, opinionated, stubborn young woman, this is half the battle for me! I’ve had doctors completely dismiss my 24 years of experience of living with my pretty much unique condition... simply because I’m young, female, and in one drs case, because I was wearing dungarees. Yes, you read that right. Basically, I feel diversity and inclusion is one of the most important aspects of palliative care, and it’s something that ya activists in the community should encourage, create and embrace. #dyingmattersweek #lastday #letstalkaboutdeathbaby #palliativecarewarrior #inclusionanddiversity #theyreimportant (at Llansamlet) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxkvymfhNpe/?igshid=11xtizzaxgpmv
