Shit Cis people say to Trans* Folks

I I have been told by my co-workers that my gender presentation is unprofessional. I have been disrespected by employers, and employees of choosing not to use my pronouns (They/Them) because it's too complicated for them, and they feel they have the right to tell me how I should identify. I should be allowed to dress professionally that affirms my identity, just like women of color can wear their hair out naturally and express their cultures as well as religious individuals. My gender expression doesn't make me invalid, not capable and shouldn't be an excuse for workplace discrimination. These microaggressions and more are often unheard and silenced in a cisgender world that openly discriminated against #Transgender & #Nonbinary individuals and the reason our community struggles with finding employment, emotional and professional development as well as surviving because of our workplace culture of exclusion. I am a human being as anyone else with feelings, and the need to apply my skills, and knowledge in building the society, I should be supported and included in all spaces as anyone else.

Workplace discrimination towards Trans individuals

Even in a city like New York where LGBTQ employees are protected against discrimination based on their sexual orientation, gender expression, and identity, it's upsetting and hurtful when employers would look down on you and assume that your identity is unfit for hiring.

As a non-binary individual, I have immense anxiety and fear applying for jobs and going on interviews being employers assumption that my identity makes me less diligent. I struggle applying for jobs where my identity is constantly questioned, discriminated, and othered.

I would hope that women, blacks, and other minorities would build empathy towards LGBTQ individuals especially Transgender & Gender Non-Conforming because of their struggle to deal with the glass ceiling, and biases in their workplaces. I hope people realize our struggle is the same, and those who have struggled shouldn't throw the weight on someone else.
