Promptober day 12: Apple picking

Apples and Enedora
Characters: Hyuse, Enedora, Yotaro, Reiji
Hyuse yawned quietly as he walked through his countries newly secured vassal state. It had been a long few days of fighting and going through the motions to subordinate the new nation to Aftokrator, and Hyuse was looking forward to sleeping some of his exhaustion off at the base his expedition team claimed before getting back to work.
Hyuse surveyed the area as he walked, finally getting the time to observe the country. The city was left in ruin, with dust and debris everywhere—this was mostly thanks to Ranbanein, who went overboard once again.
Even so, Hyuse could see the bountiful farming land that this nation, Therismós, was known for. He eyed the broken crops tiredly as he strode onto a ruined building.
Once he climbed to the top of the collapsed building, he could see his base not far from him. His shoulders slumped with relief, and he deactivated his trigger, lampyris, and sighed at the clean feeling of his real body.
It’s standard practice to keep your defenses up while taking over a nation, even after the fight was already over—revenge is a very common motivator, after all.
Still, Hyuse had almost forgone that because of the uncomfortableness of the blood and dust caked on his trion body from the fighting.
But it was fine now that he was so close to where they, the expedition force sent by Aftokrator, were staying. Hyuse’s thoughts were only on his bed as he marched closer to his base.
Hopping down from a piece of broken off concrete, Hyuse arrived at the entrance. He yawned again, bringing his hand up to cover his mouth. With the urge to sleep, he grabbed the door handle and was promptly interrupted by the door swinging open, causing him to stumble forward.
“There you are!” Hyuse heard a familiar voice say from above his head. Hyuse caught himself without falling, but his movements were a little clumsy from exhaustion. He closed his eyes for three seconds before looking up.
“….Lord Enedora.” Hyuse stated, regretting every decision that led him here. Enedora’s eyes twitched and he growled, leaning forward to tower over Hyuse—not that it was hard, Hyuse was still only 13 and had little height advantage over anyone.
“Haah!? Where’s the respect, you brat!?” Enedora yelled, baring his teeth. Hyuse’s eyes lidded and he bowed his upper body, holding one of his arms behind his back and the other crossing his heart. “Greetings, lord Enedora. I apologize for my rudeness.” He offered, hoping it would be polite enough so he can go to sleep.
Enedora’s eyebrows furrowed and he blinked. He stood up straight while mumbling “Damn dog.” In a much quieter, though annoyed, voice. Enedora crossed his arms and leaned on the wall as Hyuse straightened up.
Hyuse nodded and attempted to walk past him. “If you’ll excuse me.” He mumbled, be-lining to his assigned room. Or trying to. Hyuse let out a choked noise as his collar was pulled roughly, forcing him back.
His eyes shot to Enedora, and in a rare event of fluid expressions, his confusion showed on his face. Enedora grinned cruelty, his fangs glinting.
“Did I say you could go? You’re coming with me.” He ordered arrogantly and dragged him outside, walking forward without giving Hyuse a passing thought.
Hyuse coughed as the cloth of his clothing dug into his throat. “..I can walk by myself.” He choked out. Enedora blinked and released Hyuse’s collar casually, “Keep up.” He disdained.
Hyuse rubbed his neck as he followed along, peering at Enedora as he did so. He didn’t attempt to oppose him, instead going along with Enedora’s whims without a complaint, only dreaming about his bed as they went.
Anyways, rude or not Enedora was his superior, so it’s not like he could refuse whatever it is he wants.
“What do you want me for?” Hyuse asked once he caught up to Enedora, trying to get a better understanding of the situation.
Enedora scowled, treading roughly. “You’ll see.” He grumbled vaguely, “now shut up.” Enedora commanded, glaring at Hyuse. Hyuse tensed at the look and nodded, rubbing lampyris to keep his hands busy.
After that, they traversed the terrain in silence. Hyuse had a little trouble keeping up with Enedora due to his size and how destroyed everything was, and his exhaustion doubled by the time his line of sight opened up.
Hyuse’s eyes widened as he came to a stop beside Enedora. In front of him was a vast expanse of fruit trees, and more specifically, apple trees. The chaos of broken buildings and bloodshed gave way into the greenery, and the sweet smell of fruit washed over the two Aftokrator soldiers.
Hyuse twisted his head around, taking in the large orchard. Further down, he can make out different kinds of fruits as well, though Enedora unhesitatingly walked to the apples.
Hyuse startled to attention after Enedora called out to him, pissed off, and ran to catch up. “What are we doing here?” Hyuse inquired, shifting his gaze to Enedora.
Enedora scoffed. “Isn’t it obvious? Picking apples.” He drawled and lightly hit Hyuse’s forehead for the stupid question.
Hyuse’s shoulders hunched slightly and he rubbed his forehead. “We’re picking apples?” He questioned and tilted his head. He didn’t really get it. Hyuse knew that Enedora favored apples, but why…?
Enedora glanced at him, baring his teeth slightly. “We?” He scorned and took a few, long strides to one of the apple trees. Under Hyuse’s gaze, he plopped down and leaned against it, his arms cushioning his head.
“YOU are going to be picking apples. Why would someone like me ever do something so lowly?” He sneered, grinning sharply. He’s a BLACK TRIGGER for gods sake, like he’d do something like that. Why does Hyuse think he brought him?
Hyuse paused. Ahh, he gets it now. Hyuse nodded and looked around, promptly choosing a tree to pick. He’s nothing if not a dedicated worker, even if it’s for this, which Enedora could easily do himself.
Enedora closed an eye but kept the other one open, watching Hyuse go. “Tch” he scoffed and closed his eyes completely. ‘What a dog…’
Hyuse narrowed his eyes slightly when he was out of Enedora’s sight and examined the tree he chose. It was a shorter one, but still held plentiful fruit—and more importantly, its lower branches were close enough that he could reach them without much trouble.
As Hyuse reached up for one of the apples, his stomach suddenly growled. Hyuse jumped minutely and wrapped one of his arms around his stomach. Red spread on the tip of his ears and he glanced behind himself.
Luckily, Enedora hadn’t moved or shown any signs that he heard the embarrassing display. Hyuse sighed as he turned back and remembered that he hadn’t eaten for a while, as he was preoccupied with other things.
He shook his head and stepped onto the tip of his toes, reaching up. He plucked a few big and red apples from their branches and brought them to his chest. Hyuse tilted his head, wondering if he should wash them, but quickly decided to just go back to Enedora.
He didn’t know where he could wash them, anyways(and well, if he privately just didn’t like Enedora enough to go through the effort, it’s not like anyone would know).
Hyuse stood next to Enedora and reached an arm out, offering one of the apples. “Here.” Hyuse said. Enedora opened one of his eyes and glanced between Hyuse and the apple.
“Finally.” He sneered and snatched the fruit from Hyuse’s hand. He sat up and took a bite. Enedora’s teeth sunk into the flesh of the fruit, with some of the sweet juice leaking out of it.
“Blech!” Enedora spat, turning his face to the side while holding the apple away from him. Hyuse’s eyes widened. “ what’s wrong—?” He hurriedly stepped forward, his hands held out awkwardly.
Enedora shoved the apple to Hyuse and yelled “This is too sour! What, did you get lazy and just pick from the bottom branches? Get the ones from the top!” Hyuse’s eyebrow twitched at the complaint.
While Enedora scowled at him, he looked down at himself, then to the tall trees, and back to Enedora, all with a deadpan expression.
“Can’t you do it yourself, if you’re so demanding?” Hyuse sassed unconsciously. Enedora froze and then bared his teeth. His brows snapped together and he snapped “Who do you think you’re talking to, brat!?”
Hyuse narrowed his eyes and bowed his head. “…I’ll get them for you.” He complied. As he walked away, Hyuse thought that he must’ve been more tired than expected if he let that kind of thing slip. He almost felt bad for being disrespectful to a superior, but it was Enedora.
As Hyuse looked for another tree, he took a bite out of one of the apples he already picked. He winced slightly as he chewed. It WAS a little sour, even if Enedora was completely overreacting.
He finished the apple in a few bites and chose another tree with good looking fruits on it. This time, he stepped back to find specific ones to pick.
There were a couple big, bright red and yellow apples not too far above, and Hyuse set them as his target. He circled around the base of the tree, checking for branches, before stepping back a few times.
He got a running start and kicked of the base of the trunk, sending himself upwards. He easily grabbed onto one of the trees branches and swung himself onto it. Now in the tree, he had an easy time climbing to where he remembered seeing the apples.
Hyuse’s eyes lit up when he saw them again, and he carefully sat down on a branch and reached for them. Taking one of the apples in his grasp, he gently lifted it upwards and twisted. It separated easily and the sweet aroma of the fruit became stronger as Hyuse pulled it towards himself.
He swallowed and stared at it for a couple of seconds before returning to the task at hand. He easily picked the rest of the group he liked and jumped out of the tree.
Hyuse landed on the ground with a soft *thump* and looked around for another tree with apples that met what he assumed Enedora’s standard was.
He yawned again as he went to the next tree, physiological tears welling up in his eyes before being blinked away.
He continued to climb trees and pick a couple apples from them, knowing that with Enedora’s appetite he can’t bring back too few, but his movements became progressively lazier as he went on, a testament to his exhaustion.
A little while later, Hyuse had accumulated a pile of sweet and delicious apples. There was too much to take in one go, so Hyuse grabbed as much as he could and planned to do another trip.
As he walked back to Enedora, Enedora was sitting up, his legs crossed. He held his knee with one of his hands, and rested his other elbow on his other knee, with his head resting in his hand. His index finger tapped his knee impatiently.
Enedora exploded once he spotted Hyuse. “What took you so long!?” He yelled, roughly hitting his knee with his free hand. Hyuse’s eye twitched. “I was looking for good ones. Are these to your taste?” He asked while showing Enedora the ones he chose.
Enedora scowled and took one from Hyuse’s arms. “These better be good.” He grumbled and bit into the apple. The sweet taste filled his mouth as he tore through the crisp flesh. Enedora hummed, satisfied. Hyuse sighed in relief and set the pile of apples down.
“There’s more, I’ll go grab them.” Hyuse informed and turned around, not waiting for Enedora’s response. Enedora raised an eyebrow as he continued eating.
Soon after, Hyuse came back with the rest of the apples dangerously piled in his arms. He carefully put them with the rest, glad he didn’t drop any on the way—there were multiple close calls.
With that all sorted, Hyuse sighed and collapsed again the tree. He couldn’t help but close his eyes and rest as Enedora happily munched on his favorite fruit. Enedora glanced at the slump figure a few times as he chewed and then rolled his eyes.
A few minutes after he sat down, Hyuse was close to passing out. His eyelids felt heavy, and the strain of the past couple of days was catching up to him.
All of a sudden, he felt something flying towards him and he instinctively grabbed it out of the air, his tiredness not dulling his movements. Hyuse blinked his eyes opened and brought his hand in front of him.
Hyuse’s eyes widened at the red and yellow fruit in his hand. His head shot to the side and he stared at Enedora in disbelief.
Enedora scowled at the look he was given. “WHAT!?” He shouted, loud enough to scary away all the birds in the vicinity. Hyuse flinched and rubbed his ear with his free hand.
“…it’s nothing, thank you.” Hyuse nodded, looking back at the apple in his hand. His mind was more alert now, and he could feel how hungry he was again, the one apple from earlier didn’t do much.
Hyuse happily took a bite and hummed at the sweetness. It wasn’t the overwhelming sweet that’s common in desserts, and he enjoyed it a lot. He finished the apple in a few big bites and hesitantly reached for another one.
Seeing that Enedora didn’t complain or react negatively, Hyuse swiped a couple more from the pile and ate happily.
Enedora huffed as he watched Hyuse from the corner of his eyes. He knew the kid probably hadn’t eaten for a while, despite his love for food, and didn’t expect that he’d wait for permission before doing so.
As Enedora looked forward, all he could think was ‘….what a dog.’
A little while later, Enedora heard the sound of something dropping and rolling and looked towards Hyuse. Hyuse’s arm had fell, and the half eaten apple he was holding rolled away from him.
Enedora shifted his gaze to Hyuse’s face and his eyes widened. The boy had slumped over, and his eyes were closed—he fell asleep. It was the least stoic Enedora had ever seen him, aside from when he was with his lord.
Enedora tched and leaned back, resting against the tree. He looked up, and through the branches he could see that the sun was still high in the sky.
Hyrein would be busy for a few more hours then.
Enedora picked up another apple from the pile Hyuse collected and muttered about weaklings, but he didn’t make any move to wake Hyuse up.
A long, long time later.
“Cmon, it’s Apple picking season!! Can we go please!!?” Yotaro exclaimed, tugging on Reiji’s shirt. Reiji looked down at him, exasperated.
Reiji patted Yotaro on the head. “I told you, I’m sorry but I’m not sure if we’ll be able to go. We’ve all been really busy lately.” Reiji apologized.
Yotaro exploded and yelled about the fun of picking apples and how the adults could cook so much with them while tugging hard on Reiji’s clothes.
“What’s with the commotion?”
At the sudden words, Reiji and yotaro turned to look at the doorway. Leaning on it was Hyuse, who was wearing a light button up shirt and black pajama pants, clearly ready for sleep.
Yotaro pouted and ran to him, grabbing his legs. “I want to go apple picking but Reiji keeps saying no!” He cried. Reiji exhaled exasperatedly.
“That’s a group activity, and everyone’s been busy recently—I don’t know if even I have time to take him.” Reiji explained, shaking his head.
Hyuse understood that part, even he’s had less time to play with yotaro because of rank wars and border responsibilities, but….
“Apple picking?” Hyuse tilted his head, remembering something. “Is that really a group activity?” He asked doubtfully.
Yotaro blinked up at him and then lit up. “Have you done it before?” He questioned excitedly. Hyuse hesitantly nodded, unsure if they were thinking of the same thing—Meeden was so confusing.
“Huh..” Reiji let out, placing a hand on his hip. “I didn’t think you’d be the type to go apple picking, is that a common activity in Aftokrator?” He asked.
Hyuse immediately sharped and looked at Reiji suspiciously. “It’s not.” He stated sharply. ‘Ah…’ Reiji realized his words and raised his hands in a placating manner.
“I didn’t mean to dig information on Aftokrator out of you, I was just curious about you.” Reiji assured. Hyuse glared at him for a few more seconds, but calmed down when he could see that Reiji wasn’t lying.
Yotaro tugged on Hyuse’s pants and Hyuse looked down at him. “Why did you go then?” Yotaro asked innocently. He brought out his puppy dog eyes too, and Hyuse faltered.
Since it was Yotaro asking, Hyuse pondered his words. “Well…” he began, thinking back on what happened. Yotaro and Reiji waiting with bated breath for him to continue, both curious about his life before.
“It was at the whim of my annoying superior, I guess.” Hyuse concluded.
Reiji whistled. “That’s quite the sentence, coming from you.” He marveled. Even after being abandoned, Hyuse had never been so disregarding of his superiors to call them ‘annoying’.
Hyuse shrugged, not think much of it. He and Enedora never got along, and Enedora is dead now. It doesn’t matter what he calls him.
“Aw..” Yotaro mumbled, making Hyuse and Reiji turn their attention to him. “That sounds like a bad experience, maybe it’s a good thing we can’t go….” He trailed off, upset by the prospect.
Hyuse tilted his head and shifted his gaze to Reiji. “Can’t we?” He asked with a puzzled tone. Yotaro’s eyes widened and he immediately caught on and twisted his head to stare pleadingly at Reiji as well.
“Um—“ Reiji let out a startled noise at the duel attack and took half a step back. He scratched his cheek hesitantly and avoided Hyuse’s and Yotaro’s gazes.
With just Yotaro, it was easy to refuse. But those two together were too powerful… I mean, if even Hyuse wants to do something….
“….ill see what I can do.” Reiji sighed, defeated.
“Yes!” Yotaro pumped his fist in the air and smiled brightly at Hyuse. “We did it!” He cheered. Hyuse nodded indulgently and then yawned.
“I’m going to sleep, would you like to join me?” He asked Yotaro. Yotaro’s ended up taking over his bed many times since Hyuse came to Meeden, so Hyuse got in the habit of asking so it didn’t come as a surprise.
Yotaro nodded happily and followed Hyuse out, all the while Reiji is struggling with everyone’s schedules to try and figure out this apple picking thing.

The perfect hiding place
Characters: Hyuse, Yuma kuga, Yotaro Rindō, Mikumo Osamu, Micheal Cronin, Viza, Enedora
*BANG*
The sounds of explosions rang out and shook the Tamakoma branches base. A few moments later, the door to the simulation room slid open.
Out walked Hyuse and Yuma, both winding down from their series of spars. Osamu worriedly observed the building before turning to them.
“Did you two have to go so hard? I get that you’ve been asking this for a while, but you even affected the building from the simulation rooms.” Osamu muttered, exhausted. He had to hold on to the desk nearby to stabilize himself several times, with the way those two’s fighting rocked the building.
“The base is fine” Yuma drawled and grinned, walking with his hands behind his head. “How could we hold ourselves back when we were finally allowed to fight unrestricted?” He asked, stretching a little. Hyuse nodded in agreement.
Osamu sighed and crossed his arms, but he couldn’t deny that that was fair. “I guess fighting with borders triggers for so long was rather restricting.” He agreed and took in their appearance.
Yuma was wearing the black jumpsuit like armor of his black trigger, while Hyuse had a long cloak with red circles over a grey uniform.
Their respective unique triggers, that they have not been able to use while fighting in border. Osamu is happy that Yuma can fight with his black trigger again, but he can’t deny the bad feeling he gets from Hyuse. Too many bad memories are associated with that outfit and trigger.
Hyuse took a look at their scores from the previous rounds, which were surprisingly even. “Let’s go again.” He suggested, glancing at Yuma.
Hyuse couldn’t help but want to fight a lot with lampyris, since it was his trigger—not borders, not unfamiliar. His—and it was much funner to fight Yuma when they were going all out.
Plus, it had been awhile since he was comfortable in his own skin while using a trigger.
Yuma grinned widely and happily said “Of course! You didn’t think we were done, did you?” Hyuse shook his head and leaned against the table to reach the computers.
Usami had shown him and Yuma how to set up the simulation rooms early on, since he and Yuma ended up bothering her or others for it often.
Osamu looked between the two and sweat dropped. “Really…? You two have been at it for hours already!” He exclaimed. Osamu thought that they’d be done by now—how eager were these two to fight in their actual triggers?
Yuma tilted his head back to gaze at Osamu confusedly. “Exactly? We’ve only been fighting for 4 hours, why would we stop now?” He asked with his typical duck expression.
Osamu gaped at him, dumbfounded. Yuma just looked at him, confused.
As their impromptu staring contest was going on, Hyuse navigated the computer to set up another 10 round match. As he did so, a clawed finger rhythmically tapped the table.
As he finished up and set up the virtual field, he heard people coming downstairs. He twisted his head to look at the entrance, and the noise caught Yuma and Osamu’s attention as well.
Micheal walked in, conversing with Yotaro who was riding on his shoulders. Once Yotaro saw Hyuse, he paused his conversa with Micheal and waved excitedly.
“Hyuse!” He exclaimed, smiling widely. Hyuse stood up straight and nodded to Micheal as he greeted Yotaro.
“Yotaro, what are you doing here? I told you I’d be fighting for a while.” Hyuse asked, having previously informed the child that he wouldn’t be able to play with him until later that night.
Yotaro tapped Micheal and responded “As your senpai, it’s my duty to oversee your training!” He nodded proudly as Micheal crouched and climbed off of the older man.
As he stood up, Micheal said “I tried to get him to leave you two be, but he got bored and insisted.” With an awkward smile on his face. Anyways, who was he to deny his little lord?
“Well, it’s not like I didn’t want to see what my nephew can do with his actually trigger” he added on, revealing his true feelings. Osamu was startled by the title, almost forgetting about that part, but Hyuse wasn’t phased and just nodded as Yotaro ran up to him.
Yotaro circled around Hyuse in awe, taking in his appearance. Sure he saw it before but that was a tense situation! And it was gone quickly, so Yotaro was very excited that he got a chance to see Hyuse in his trigger body again.
Hyuse indulged in him while Osamu and Yuma talked to Micheal. Yotaro grabbed Hyuse’s clawed hand and marveled at it. “This is so cool!! I want a claw like this, do you think I’ll be able to get my trigger modified by border!?” Yotaro asked, his head shooting from Hyuse’s claw to his head and back.
Hyuse flexed his hand in Yotaro’s grip, careful not to cut him. He tilted his head, “probably? The gauntlet came with Lampyris though, so it wasn’t something I asked for.” He answered.
“Really? It’s quite the weapon, and you use it so naturally I thought it was something you did deliberately.” Yuma chimed in, remembering a few of the close combat spars they’ve had so far.
He had wanted to test Hyuse’s close combat abilities with lampyris, as it’s more of a mid to long range weapon outside of its defensive capabilities, and ended sliced up by those sharp claws of his.
Hyuse shrugged. “I’ve had this trigger for two years” he pointed out and left it at that. Yotaro rubbed it a little and made up his mind to demand the same modification for his trigger in the future.
He let go and quickly found another point of interest. Yotaro grabbed onto Hyuse’s cloak and it bunched up in his hands. His eyes lit up and he circled around Hyuse, the cloak flowing in his hands as he does so.
“It’s soft!” He mumbled when he got to the front. Hyuse tilted his head and touched the cloak himself. “Is it?” He asked, having never noticed it before.
Yotaro smiled mischievously and threw the open sides up, burrowing into the cloak as they came down.
Hyuse startled and took half a step back. “Yotaro?” He questioned, looking down at his cloak which Yotaro disappeared into. Yotaro let out a quiet laugh and grabbed onto Hyuse’s leg, sticking close so he didn’t even make a dent in the covering.
Helplessly, Hyuse let him do as he wanted and looked towards Yuma and the others.
“—so we’re about to go another round!” Yuma announced happily. “After fighting for hours already.” Osamu interjected, slumping against the wall.
“That’s quite normal, especially for two teens who just got permission to go all out.” Micheal nodded sagely, used to how neighbors approach fighting.
He tilted his head to the side and added “You two only got clearance to use them today though, so it’s good to take advantage of it.”
Hyuse narrowed his eyes at the first part of Micheal’s sentence. He crossed his arms. “We’re adults?” He stated, confused.
Michael smiled. “Not here, remember?” Hyuse blinked and then scowled. He did remember something about the age of adulthood being 18 in Japan, but he didn’t think that would apply to him or Yuma.
Micheal blinked and then looked around. He frowned and asked “Where’s yotaro?”. At this, the other two also noticed that the usually noticeable child was no where to be found.
Yuma held his chin. “Did he leave without us noticing? When did Yotaro get so sneaky?” He pondered with his typical duck expression.
Hyuse’s eyes widened a fraction and he felt Yotaro shaking, stifling a laugh. Hyuse let out a huff of amusement at the familiar situation and raised his arm, pushing against the cloak and opening it.
The cloth raised and uncovered Yotaro, who was clinging to Hyuse’s leg. He startled at the sudden light and pouted.
“Aw, Hyuseeee! I wanted to hide more!” Yotaro lamented. Yuma, Osamu, and Micheal stared dumbfounded before Yuma bursted out laughing.
“PFFT—hahaha-comfy in there?” Yuma breathed out, tempted to try it as well.
(For once, his height might be an advantage)
Osamu stared blankly, his mouth hanging open. All of a sudden, Hyuse’s get up was a lot less threatening.
“…that explains it.” Micheal chuckled, shaking his head. Yotaro stepped out from under the cloak dejectedly. “It’s so good for hiding too…” he whispered.
“It is.” Hyuse nodded as he remembered something and the corners of his lips twitched up for half a second.
Yuma whistled and leaned against the wall. “Sounds like there’s a story there.” He teased, curious. But Hyuse just shook his head, not elaborating.
He pat Yotaro’s head as he moved forward, walking to Yuma. “Let’s go. The rooms already set up.” He stated, nodding his head in the direction of the simulation room they were using.
Yuma lit up and bounced off the wall, catching up to Hyuse. “Oh yeah! Actually there’s something new I want to try for this one…….”
He trailed off as they entered the room, waving to the ones not fighting as he went.
Outside of it, the others got situated around the desk, watching the computer so they could observe the fight. Yotaro smiled eagerly, forgetting his earlier dejection, and jumped in place while holding onto the desk.
Round 1, begin—
(Hyuse sped through the halls, trying to get away from a certain person. Behind him, he heard a shout of ‘Where’d that brat go!?’ And quickened his pace.
Normally, he wouldn’t avoid his superiors like this but he had a bad feeling about what he’d be roped into if Enedora found him—it never ended up good when that guy wanted something out of him.
Hyuse grabbed his sword and pulled it close to his chest to keep it from making any noise. It was smaller than most, as at the time Hyuse was still young and hadn’t yet hit another growth spurt.
Hyuse looked back as he moved through the halls, checking to see if Enedora had followed him there yet. Because of this, he wasn’t paying attention to where he was going.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem because Hyuse knew the layout of his houses building—which they temporarily stopped at to restock the away ship— like the back of his hand, but that’s didn’t help when people were in his way.
He ran into a sturdy body with a ‘thump’ and tumbled backwards. Hyuse eyes widened and he bowed down. “I apologize. I should’ve been paying attention.” He blurted out, glancing behind him as he heard another Enedora yell something again.
“That you should have, lord Hyuse.” An old mans voice sounded and Hyuse shot up, relieved but embarrassed to see his teacher, Viza. Hyuse bowed again, this time more formal and in greeting.
“Councilor Viza.” He acknowledge, rising when his teacher gestured for him to. Viza smiled kindly at the boy and asked “What’s got you so worked up? you’re not usually so neglectful.”
Hyuse averted his eyes. “It’s nothing important..” he started but jumped when he heard a door bang open. “HYUSE!” Enedora shouted, twisting his head around to look for the boy.
Hyuse spun around and spotted Enedora as the start of the hallway. He instinctively stepped back, but he remembered Viza and gave up, resigning himself to being caught.
But just as Enedora turned this way, Viza waved his arm and brought Hyuse close to himself. As his arm fell, so did the black cloak he was wearing.
The cloth fell over Viza’s body, and consequently Hyuse. It covered the younger boy entirely, and he couldn’t see what was happening outside.
Hyuse’s eyes widened at the sudden change and he looked up at Viza—or tried to. He couldn’t see his teachers face due to the cloak, and he quickly realized what Viza was doing and stopped moving, sticking close to Viza.
Hyuse looked down and blushed slightly, but was still grateful.
Outside of the cloak, Enedora had come up to Viza. “Oh? That’s rare, it’s a pleasure to see you, lord Enedora. What can I do for you?” Viza said amicably, inclining his head in greeting.
Enedora scoffed and looked around. “Have you seen your student? I need him.” He stated, not caring to greet Viza at all.
Viza smiled, not minding it. “I apologize, I have not. He might have stopped by his room, if you’d like to check?” He suggested, lying to his superior without breaking a sweat.
Under the cloak, Hyuse was much more unsure. Even if he was avoiding Enedora, blatantly lying to his superior like that felt wrong…..but it was his teacher, so maybe it was okay.
“Tch” Enedora let out and rubbed his head aggressively. “That brat isn’t worth the trouble.” He sneered, turning around.
“Shouldn’t a dog come when it’s called?” Enedora mumbled as he left. Viza’s eyebrow raised at the derogatory nickname, but he didn’t say anything and let Enedora leave.
After the coast was clear, Viza raised his arm and let Hyuse out. Hyuse scratched his cheek, embarrassed, and didn’t look Viza in the eyes.
“..thank you, teacher.” He mumbled out, a slight blush on his cheeks at hiding like a child.
Viza smiled softly and pat Hyuse’s head. “Of course, I couldn’t subject you to Enedora in good conscience.” He chuckled and moved his hand down to rest on the back of Hyuse’s head.
He walked forward, using his hand to guide Hyuse to follow him. “Now come. Why don’t we practice some more swordsmanship before you leave? I look forward to seeing your improvement.” Viza guided Hyuse with a smile on his face.
Hyuse lit up almost unnoticeably and nodded, following Viza happily.)
The memory came and went, and Hyuse didn’t dwell on it. Even so, it improved his mood and he had even more fun fighting Yuma than usual—or maybe that was just because he was freer, using his trigger.
I was on wortri jp twitter the other day when chapter 258 dropped and someone was like "just updated the names/forms of address site" and i was like :O
so apparently there's a whole?? website??? where somebody or some people have compiled a list of every single honorific/form of address that every single character has used for one another in the entire manga series (no anime), with notes for which ones are second person/third person (used directly to their face vs. in reference). it's seriously impressive.

if any fic writers want to have the characters address e/o with japanese honorifics....this site's got your back. admittedly the site itself is in japanese but hey that's what translate's for.
for reference the first section is the four main characters and then the next section is border: execs -> a rank squads -> b rank squads -> c rank -> s rank -> branches. last section is neighbors (afto, then galo)
really, extremely funny things that I've found out from this site:
chika has apparently never once directly referred to anyone using any form of the word "you", it's always by name
enedora calls kikuchihara "gloomy shorty"
hanzaki called hyuse "hyuse-kun" once as a joke
yuma, roleplaying as teacher, also called kotaro "kotaro-kun"
hyuse has never called osamu captain. however, he does address wakamura as captain on multiple occasions
and a ton more but i frankly can't remember all of them
also, the amount of people who have never addressed each other at all in the manga is crazy.
World Trigger Chapter 56
how has your day been, enedra?
TERRIBLE.
