Aroace Ranbanein: The biggest part of this hc is how it reverses a common stereotype. There’s a stereotype where a canon aroace/aro/ace character or commonly fan headcannoned aroace character—this idea also extends to real people by those who believe in it—are the cold, unfeeling types that don’t really care about anyone and are usually alone. They’re reticent, mean, ect ect. Often literally not human as well but that’s a separate issue. It’s based on the belief that if you do not feel romantic or sexual attraction, or just don’t desire that “pinnacle of closeness and affection” then you’re just an emotionless person. That lacking those attractions means you’ll always be alone and you don’t care because if you don’t want romantic and/or sexual closeness with anything which is OBVIOUSLY the best/most important kind, you just won’t care for or be able to make other kinds of connections. You get the idea—I could go on and on but this isn’t the point lol—this attitude almost always shows when you’re an aro/ace person that isn’t like that or all, or if you headcanon a friendly, cheerful character as aroace. A lot of people will genuinely be like “you/they can’t be aroace, you’re/they’re too nice and they have a bunch of friends” and so on. Ranbanein flips that stereotype on its tail. While he is an antagonist, he’s a very jolly and fun loving guy. He’s expressive and friendly, even to his enemies after being defeated, he’ll laugh and get along with others easily. This also kind of fits with his appearance & attitude vs fighting style. Ranba looks like a brute who fights on instinct, that’s the impression he gives off, but he’s actually a thinker-fighter who calmly assesses the situation and considers the whole battlefield and such(while still having fun. Like I said, he’s a jolly guy). Like the stereotype vs reality. It’s fun, imo.
There’s also a humorous aspect. Y’know how simple kindness & friendliness is often taken for romantic and, more often, sexual intent? It’s usually men taking it as that when women are kind to them but it happens both ways, and it’s hella prevalent in media. Ranbanein is generally friendly from what we’ve seen of him, even to enemies who defeated him. I just think it’d be REALLY funny if he accidentally created those misunderstandings sometimes while also being #aroace
Ofc my hcs aren’t always or even like, solely because of big ideas I also just think aroace ranba is very fitting and IM aroace spec and everyone needs to be hit with the beam
Asexual Hyrein: Just ace, not aro. That’s important. This is one of my favorite headcanons simply because I love considering Hyrein’s character he’s so interesting. In the first place, I really can’t see this guy wanting sex or having that attraction, but that’s not the fun reason. Given what we know about the neighborhood and Afto’s societies, which is basically nothing, we can’t really say whether or not they have the same amatonormative society that we do or the same common view of romantic relationships(that they’re the most important form of relationship and sex is a big—required, for most—part of them). But considering him from that perspective, it adds a layer of bitterness to him. Being asexual while not aromantic is a painful experience. A large amount of people are not okay with a relationship without sex, there are all kinds of views villainizing or fetishizing ace people. But ace people still feel romantic love and want relationships(this is a general statement ofc. There are a lot of individual differences, but unless they’re aro as well, ace people are fully capable of feeling romantic attraction). And I mean—Hyrein, who deeply wants things but struggles to obtain them for various reasons? A peaceful life yet his responsibility and struggles as one of the four main lords? A romantic partner but not being able to happily fulfill such a “crucial” aspect of it? How he could never fully be happy in his position because his wants/desires lie elsewhere than what’s expected of him? Ace Hyrein is perfect. Just keep stacking or some thing lmao
(I do not mean to say being asexual is a tragedy or smth, it’s definitely not and I don’t mean this hc like that. It’s more a consideration of his character and my own love for aspec hcs)
I think of him as sex neutral leaning on sex negative. Ranba is 0/0 for romantic and sexual attraction in my mind as well🥹
