Okay so like what if neighbour math is in base 8 as opposed to base 10 cause of it being the smallest non 1 cubic integer and trion seems to kind of naturally make cubes if it isn't being formed into other shapes on purpose. (Also kind of lines up with the thing early on where yūma doesn't really understand bills but coins make an amount of intuitive sense to him, if neighbourhood currencies are based on volumes of trion at specific standardized densities. Bigger coin -> more volume -> more value, versus bills which are not only all the same size but also Flat and therefore of negligible volume)
I don't entirely know what my point is with that other than wouldn't it be neat. Could also be funny if despite his grades being what they are (extremely bad) Yūma is actually a few years ahead in math on paper. Since physics presumably works the same in the neighborhood as it does on earth and his dad had something of an engineering bent I could see it coming up (probably good to understand parabolas and stuff if youre going to be throwing yourself across a battlefield). He's good at math but slow, on account of having to convert everything to base 8 and then back again until he's used to the new number system. Probably makes any show your work questions look wild. Like the answer is right but all the numbers get weird in the middle what do you Mean 35=43 ect and so on.
that is a really really fun way of going at it. language is an obvious thing, yuma is just branching out of hiragana, but *maths* is fascinating to consider in the context of their differences.
i like the idea that yuma has a natural grasp of kinetics because he and his dad have fucked with forces.
