Some coworkers had a The Youth NowadaysTM convo earlier today (somehow I've noticed that any group of 30 to 70+yo left together will eventually shift their topic conversation to that, without any fear of being contradicted bc there is no youth here to defend themselves 🙃). That convo is always stupid bc, while the youth isnt exempt of criticism,
1. the Youth Nowadays complain literally dates back to THOUSAND OF YEARS BC. Those people's parents complained about The Youth when themselves were young, and their parents' parents did when their parents were young, etc.
2. Generalisation about a group is always wrong.
3. Their argument are usually wrong, for instance: "they have everything". We don't have full employment like boomers had in the 70s-80s. We have to deal with climate change. Etc.
But the worst part was that they talked about Only Fans 💀 Which ofc implied to look down on teenage girls as a group bonding activity. The women — mothers, most of them— talk about how they would rip a new one to their daughter if it was theirs who did it. One man joked about it in a way that make you wonder if he doesn't use OF as a consumer. Not one of them mention how predatory the system is. A 36yo male coworker mentions how obvsly girls throw themselves at it bc its tons of easy money, AS IF THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF OF girls and women didnt make PEANUTS while the website and its whole system profits massively to its male creators, and he talks about it with such disdain AS IF SELLNG YOUR BODY WAS WORSE than, oh idk, drug dealing and gang related activities?? Because it's the SAME logic. Boys and men going for lots of easy money. Some coming from poor backgrounds and trying to provide for their families, not only spouses and kids, but siblings, parents, etc.
