Leo: *smiles* maybe 'thanks' can be our 'always'

Enemy of My Enemy

"It's purely for safety, my sweet."

Rogue had come to Kingpin's tower today after Cannonball's team of Avengers found a shipment of power inhibitors on a train out of the city. Of course they can't be traced, but hardware that severe doesn't make its way through the state of New York without Winston Fisk's knowledge.

"Debilitatin' most mutants' only form of defense sounds far from safe."

"Much safer for those without such a thing, though, wouldn't you say?"

Kingpin has always liked Rogue. Back when she was with the Brotherhood, Mystique would take her to his arms dealing galas, and he'd had a great interest in her. Back then, she was another weapon of mass destruction. She wasn't a person, she was a thing to him.

"Not when the other side has guns, Ah'd say no."

Now, though, as his beady gaze drifts over her, he's realized she's a woman. And a finer example of one, at that. Her folded arms grip her sides a little tighter, her heavy, hooded uniform doing little against the chill his stare sends down her spine. It's moments like this she hates her control: if anyone made a grab at her before, they were out cold before she realized what was happening. Now, she has to be completely aware, 'lest someone gets the drop on her. Not that it would matter much here either way; Kingpin's neigh invulnerability revealed him to be on the first people she learned could touch her.

"How the times change," he chides her good naturedly. "Why, I remember when you scant so tall, demoing rocket launchers for your mother." Rogue's eye twitches at the mentioning of Mystique, though he's too busy eyeing her to notice. "My," he drawls the word, his thick, stubby fingers drumming on his huge stomach, "How you've grown."

Her stomach twists. "The Avengers mah be new to your game, Kingpin," she drops one arm, using the other to point at him. "But ya'll can be sure we'll make them play it. Whatever this crap is," and now both her fists are on her hips. "It's endin' here, right quick."

His smile makes a third chin. He doesn't look worried at all. "How I encourage you to try, my sweet." A pudgy finger presses a button on an elaborate touch screen in his desk. It flicks on to an image, showing a man's face. "Lewis," he calls, never removing his eyes from her. "Do add Ms Rogue's name to the guest list. She's shown interest in stopping by."

"-Of course, sir.-"

The screen blinks out, and he reclines his grotesque frame back in the obviously custom built chair.

"Now then," he grins at her. "I'm afraid I have several things I must attend to." She wants to punch him in his stupid, fat face. Though without Carol's super strength or invulnerability, she'll probably just break her hand. "I trust I shall see you soon."

"Count on it."

Rogue doesn't have to wait long to attend a 'show.' It's the same week as her visit, and she whirls on in like she owns the place. The setting is familiar enough. Extravagant, well catered, filled with dangerous people. She hovers near the foods table, doing her best to commit the faces she sees in the crowd to memory. She took a guess at the dress code, siting what the women in her memories wore. 

It's a good call. Her dress is a halter style, with an uncomfortably (for her) low back. Long, it touches past her ankles as she walks, with an immodest slit up her right thigh. A green so dark it's practically black in this lighting brings out the white of her opera length gloves. Her hair is spun around in an intricate bun on top of her head, and her bangs hang with their natural curl near her eyes and down the sides of her face. A little too good of a call, maybe, as she's had to turn down several gentlemen throughout the evening, trying to keep her view of the floor open.

Their gracious host seemingly hasn't arrived yet. She kills time by absently eating crackers from the table as she stares across the room. Her hand bumps another and she quickly turns to apologize.

"Ah'm so-oh!" Her mouth makes a perfect 'O' shape in surprise. She honestly had not expected to run into James Bond here. "Uh," she struggles to get around her dumb surprise. "Hi."
