TW: DEATH AND BLOOD MENTION
BEING IN THE FORCE WAS NEVER EASY. But he didn’t expect it to be this hard. Sasuke was used to bloodshed, having participated in it all his life—whether just watching, doing, or instigating. But this was never easy for him. At least, not when it came to the ones that are young and impressionable. The Uchiha saw himself in these kids—the want to be independent and explore on their own, and to take risks. And he had went as far as getting himself killed because of it. Sometimes not even by choice.
But, her? She’s young and lively. Impressionable, even. She didn’t deserve this terrible fate—even if it’s in a dream.
Sasuke finds himself walking alongside his lieutenant in this dream once more but the words were always garbled or silent until it came to the cause of death. This time: a motorcycle—it was a different vehicle every time. But the solemn expressions the people around him—and himself—exhibited was always the same; even the way she died was always the same. Ran over, without a care in the world. Like someone had a vendetta and wanted to rid of her so badly. And Sasuke wouldn’t know what to do at that point but remain silent as his person would hover above a white body bag—the yellow evidence tabs spread all around the scene clear as day. But, they were always in the same place every time this dream occurred.
Sasuke would look solemnly, hand forming into a fist to stop himself from doing anything rash. At this point he was always overcome with anger. Why, why did she—out of all people—have to be in this situation?
There she was: Yuzu.
The once-lively girl lay on that body bag below him—skin pale as snow. He noticed her doll—Bloom Prima (the poor thing)—laid tattered on the ground next to her. She must have wanted to save her owner. Every time Sasuke would return, Bloom Prima would be even more tattered and dirty than before; yet the position stayed the same—splayed on the ground like someone had thrown it away without a care.
Sasuke would find himself kneeling beside her, reaching out to try and touch her cold, cold body but he’s always stopped by the lieutenant’s voice.
❝ Don’t be careless, Uchiha. These are evidence. ❞
And then Sasuke would immediately retract his hand and stand up, turning around to find no one but him alone on the side of the road. Everything had become foggy by now and he had to fight the mist to move. His feet carried him away from the site until the echo of a familiar voice would materialize into an unsynchronized cacophony. And then she would appear—the same he saw her on that body bag.
❝ Why didn’t you save me, sir? ❞
Yuzu’s voice would echo and Sasuke would find himself backing away, eyes shaking as tears clouded his vision.
❝ I’m sorry…I—I know. I’m sorry. ❞
He would watch Yuzu’s expression turn dark and with the last farewell would say these words:
❝ You betrayed everyone. You’re a liar, you said you’d protect me. ❞
Sasuke would wake up in the break room couch, the mundane noises of officers talking as they got papers ready for meetings would fill his ears. Slowly sitting, Sasuke would bury his head onto his hand. It never gets easier, but he didn’t expect it to be so, so hard.
