It brightens skin, but a longer trial will determine if there are lightening effects on hyperpigmentation. Ultra Brightening Cleanser I enjoyed this cleanser and feel that this did do some brightening. There wasn't too much lather, cleansed well, and rinses off easily. There is a refreshing mild citrus scent, that is not too overwhelming.
