It was beginning to get on his nerves how many places he’d checked by now. Retracing his steps seemed to be doing nothing and he cursed himself for not having noticed earlier that something was missing. The chance of someone having picked it up by now was highly likely, but then he’d have no clue who to ask. A sigh left him at the thought of even asking more than even five people. Fighting alongside others on the battlefield didn’t quite equate to developing social skills, and he still far preferred to keep to himself. So lost in thought, he couldn’t even try to hide the embarrassing jump at the sudden voice of another and the mage meekly turned around, sighing in relief at seeing none other than Alm.
“ I seem to have misplaced a journal earlier today and I haven’t been able to find it. I just noticed a little while earlier, too. ” More like only when he’d planned to look it over. There was a clear annoyance in his tone mostly directed at himself. “ I’d prefer to find it before I turn in for the night, but I’ve already checked everywhere I’ve been since morning. ”
The fact that Kliff even jumped at his words was cause for concern, but Alm should have expected it, since his friend seemed to be so focused on his search. Maybe he should have made himself more obvious sooner, but at least he could take comfort in the fact that Kliff seems relieved to see him. The smile that tugs at his lips, however, seems to freeze at its halfway point as he finally obtains the very reason he had seen his friend go back and forth for the better part of the day.
Wasn’t that journal pretty important to Kliff? He’d have personally already lost his head, had he lost something like that himself. “I can’t say I’ve seen it.” He starts, taking a moment to think back to having seen said object. “But if someone found it, they might have dropped it off in the War Tent.”
It was pretty dark, they’d probably be unable to look for it soon without the help of a lantern or some fire magic, might be best of they hopped to it, too. “We can check that first. See if we find it there.”
With a gesture for Kliff to follow, Alm started to their destination at a decent pace. “You’ve been at this for a while, huh? I guess you already looked in the last place you remembered seeing it...” If his friend was anything, it was thorough. Among other things.
