he wasn’t the best of actors --- but if it would save him from uncomfortable conversation he would try. upon his observation he quickly looked away, and furrowed his brows in confusion, soft forced laughter falling from his lips a bit too much like of a staccato. “look at each other like what? like human beings?” the inflation in his voice could easily give away that he was more nervous than confused, but he continued to play along with his own story. this was much safer than risking years of a friendship. of late night conversations, and reassurances. of promises of always sticking together and rooting for one another’s happiness. it wasn’t about who could make her happy that mattered to chaebum, but her happiness as a whole. he knew for a fact he could make her happy but for how long? it was too dangerous to put selfish feelings on the line only to end up leaving her without a shoulder cry on should things go south. maybe if they hadn’t been friends first it would be different. but there wasn’t a way to go back and change things. and even if there were, he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to. “i think you’re not getting enough rest, do need some more of that sleepy time tea.”
