Centres: heart triad
The core neurosis of image types revolves around the idea of needing to earn love. Instead of being loved for who they are, they come up with constructing an identity and the next thing that happens is that they look for affirmation of their image games. This validation is mistaken for genuine love and appreciation. The defense mechanism has nothing to do with questions as to who they really are. If anything, heart types usually avoid “who am I” like the plague. This includes 4s as their supposed self-awareness is about overfocussing on negativity.
Their construct is what they offer and how they want to control other people’s perceptions of them. For 2s, it’s about the self-image of being a moral and loving person, which is offered to the outside world for validation. 3s construct a self-image of someone who is always developing and improving themself. For 4s the validation is a paradoxical one as they seek this in terms of what they are not. People not understanding them affirms that they lack something and this suffering is what they use to get validation and sympathy.

We all know it’s true, 8’s get a bad wrap for being the ones who can’t deal with their vulnerability. But the truth is, none of us are all that great at being truly vulnerable, and we just choose 9 different ways to avoid it. •• Vulnerability is vital for true intimacy. It is showing up and being deeply seen for who we really are. And that shit is waaaay harder than it sounds. Vulnerability takes practice, and that practice is often deeply uncomfortable. •• This discomfort stems from the fact that we’ve built our entire personalities around avoiding vulnerability, staying in control, and managing the pain of being a human in this world. To practice vulnerability brings us right back to that pain, but it’s here we can transform it and open our lives up to a whole to new world of possibilities. •• I almost never do type specific breakdowns anymore, but this seems appropriate: •• 1’s avoid vulnerability by always working to be right, good, or appropriate. 2’s avoid vulnerability by always being willing to help and focusing on the needs of others. 3’s avoid vulnerability by achieving goals, being seen as successful, and exemplifying the values of their culture. 4’s avoid vulnerability by being unique, special, or exceptional in some way. 5’s avoid vulnerability by gaining knowledge and working to understand. 6’s avoid vulnerability by always questioning, and brokering certainty. 7’s avoid vulnerability by always having a back up plan, their ability to reframe, and humor. 8’s avoid vulnerability by being strong, capable, and having an impact on the world around them. 9’s avoid vulnerability by forgetting themselves and what they need and want in situations. •• How do these resonate with you? How do you practice vulnerability? Let me know in the comments! • • • #enneagram #enneagram1 #enneagram2 #enneagram3 #enneagram4 #enneagram5 #enneagram6 #enneagram7 #enneagram8 #enneagram9 #millenneagram #spiritualgrowth #personalgrowth #enneagramcoach #queerenneagram #personalitytypes #enneagramtypes #spiritualwork #innerwork #transformation #contemplative #contemplativepractice #practice #yoga #meditation #quote #quoteoftheday #qotd #handdrawn #handlettering (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3wh4DKFSkk/?igshid=ye685uz7nmlw
