∑ - Isabelle didn’t know why she’d see Jocelyn in her room but hearing her explanation, it made sense. She had been close to her mother when she was a Trueblood, and now the two girls had been pulled apart because of circumstances that went damaged their past. “She’s healing.” Her voice was soft, heels clicking against the wooden floor as she made it to her bed, kicking them off and tucking her legs under her body. Trying to relax, Edom had taken a lot out of the teenagers, but the Dark War, fighting the Endarkened. Had tired every shadowhunter out. “After Max in the Mortal War and now dad and her, it’s hard. The family is strained.” Alec and Magnus were together, Robert and Maryse were working through everything, and Izzy had lost Simon. “How are you dealing?”

“Luke’s not here right now.” Maia was fairly aware in a sense who had just wandered into the Jade Wolf. Despite being supposedly dead but maybe that’s why the appearance in the first place. “One of the newbies needed bailed out of jail.” 

Focusing on highlighting another paragraph in her textbook. “Could leave a message with me- he left his phone here by accident or wait around till he gets back.”

there’s no doubt that isabelle’s always admired jocelyn, the woman’s strength and valor making her stand out against most other shadowhunters. she’s not ruthless, by any means, not unless she needs to be apparently, but there’s something to be admired about the quiet strength she possesses, too. not many people would be able to go through what she did, turning their back on everything, only with their wits and survival instincts to keep them safe. and running from someone like valentine? not many would have the courage to leave him in the first place.

the corner of her lip quirks in a half smirk, gaze turning towards the older woman. “then i guess that really does just prove men are all the same; none of them can imagine they’re not the center of a woman’s universe.”

Maryse huffs a laugh, and despite how melancholy she feels, a slight smile curves her lips. Jocelyn is right – no matter how... sad it makes her that they’ve lost so much time, they have each other now. They simply took the long way around. She squeezes Jocelyn’s hand, and lifts it to press her lips against the woman’s knuckles. ‘Maybe you’re right’, she murmurs, ‘though... I think if I’d had an inkling of my feelings back then... things would’ve been very different’.
