6/14, 2225, rainstorm.
I got back from a funeral earlier in the evening. Maa’vi. Her name was Maa’vi. She had been working for me for about five years, mostly errands and helping me on the field. She had a great way with the animals, Jules, you would have liked her. She was calm, never broke even with the most feral and agitated. She had a good mind with metrics too, very keen and quick to learn. I liked her, I honestly did. And I tried to do right by her. I hope I did. It feels like I’ve been trying to do right by a lot of people for my entire life.
I felt sad, yes of course! Sad and...proud. Our son, Jules, our little Veradun, he’s...Force sensitive. I don’t know where to even begin! I’m happy for him! And apprehensive, frightened, and wary. Being trained as a Sith, could you imagine the opportunities? The things he would be able to do, the places he would be able to see, and the lessons he would be able to experience, it is beyond my comprehension. I never dreamt of this life for him, and now it’s on our doorstep and I...I don’t know what I should do.
He ran to me, looked up at me with his bright green eyes, like yours. He told me he killed her, the slave.
“She’s dead, Father.”
“Who’s dead?”
“The slave girl, Maa’vi.”
“What? How...why?”
“I wanted to see if I could.”
He wanted to see if he could. Killing her was like asking himself whether or not he could climb a tree. She had misplaced an animal and it escaped. I yelled at her and swore. I shouldn’t have, not in front of our son. But I did. I’m not denying that. I am trying my best and sometimes, it is far from perfect.
I showed up at the service. I was unwanted but I needed to pay my respects. What could I say? Thank you for dying so he could have a better life? I tried to offer what I could. Money, resources. I was turned down, in the most severe way. I left and a part of me stayed at the funeral.
Jules, I am full of emotions that I can’t explain. I have to send him away, I have to. If they find out he’s Force sensitive…
I should focus on the good. He could become Sith, perhaps even a Darth. His fate is up to himself and the Force now, even just writing that makes me shiver. The Force. Some undetectable power that makes things move, though that does explain quite a bit.
This nightcap is starting to take effect. I wonder where you are. I know where you are, but I am afraid to find you, afraid you’ll disapprove of my choices for him. Everything I do, I do as the two of us. I wish you could see him, so you’d understand.
I will tell him about us one day, a Darth should know his true lineage.
E xx
