It was a cold evening.
The light from the street lamps was dazzling. There weren't many people around, it was already past rush hour. Your steps were quick. You had to get to the Live House, because you were going to be the star on the stage tonight. The feeling was tense but also exciting; standing under the spotlight, with a whole crowd watching you... You could feel yourself gripping the microphone. Your heart was beating like crazy already, just imagining it.
When you turned onto a side street, the building stood right in front of you. It was large, but a bit shabby. You could hear noises coming from inside. You turned the doorknob and slowly stepped inside. A young man greeted you.
"Ah, hello, [name]. I've been waiting for you." It was Kaoru Hakaze. He was a second-year student at Yumenosaki, like you. He also ran this Live House. He was a bit lazy, flirtatious, but sincere guy. He was also a friend to a certain someone.
"Hi, Kaoru. Here I am." You looked away from Kaoru for a second and glanced around. A lot of people were there; most were young. They were all looking at the band singing and playing guitar on the stage. Their performance was almost over.
You glanced back at Kaoru. "Is he here yet?"
"Mhm, no." He leaned his arm against the wall. His hair was a mess. He must have been running around here for a while. "You are going to be on stage with him, aren't you?"
"Yup."
"You really never know what he'll be up to..." He shrugged. "I thought you didn't like him. Where did this whole thing come from?"
"Don't even ask..." You sighed. "The student council set this up. I don't know if it's Hasumi's doing, but believe me, I'll hold whoever set it up accountable. I didn't have time to reject it anyway. So I came in here in a hurry."
"So he didn't reject it either... Well, whatever. You can go to the dressing room. Good luck. I hope he'll come."
You exchanged one last greeting with Kaoru and entered the dressing room. You were starting to get really frustrated. What was he up to? He was constantly acting so reckless. He thinks he's like, super cool, you thought.
Photos of some of the current popular idols hung on the room's walls. He was there too. A part of his black hair had fallen to the side of his face, and his red eyes glinted with arrogance. You gritted your teeth. “Ugh, damn it. I’m left all alone. He'll never show up."
You spent a while in the room getting ready. Your boots were on, their heels giving it a hot look. Your jacket was old, its leather was ripping off- but it still did the job. You combed your hair, fixed your outfit, and sprayed some perfume. The music continued to blare from outside the room. It was going to be your turn soon.
You were startled by the creak of the door. It was Kaoru who entered.
“Hey, [Name]. He showed up. He's chatting with a few people in the audience.”
Chatting? Was he kidding you? You were going on the stage soon- there was no time to chit-chat!
Your face was flushed with anger and stress. You felt like you were about to explode. “Get him here.”
“Well, but-”
“I said get him here." Kaoru must have been startled by your tone, he quickly nodded and left the room.
Someone had to hold him accountable. He had no right to shirk his responsibilities and hurt people.
A few minutes later, the door opened. Kaoru had arrived. And finally, he had brought him as well.
There was Rei Sakuma, standing right in front of you. He had a white shirt on, looking slightly rumpled like it hadn't been smoothed in ages. His pale figure appeared tall in his casual black jeans and boots. You could see him smirking a little bit under his sharp crimson-red eyes, glancing at you. The way he stood there; too calm, too sure of himself, wrapped the room in a subtle, unwelcome heat.
It was your time to speak. "Sakuma-" His name slipped through your lips with rage. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Kaoru had already left, probably didn't even want to interfere with you two. You were now all alone with Rei. He slowly walked to you, every single one of his steps making you feel even more irritated. And you couldn't stop yourself from blushing when his gaze lingered on you. He was almost too charming- too irresistible.
"Uh, [name]. Forgive me, would ya'? I'm a bit late. To be honest, I dunno why we're gonna perform together anyway. I wasn't gonna even come here. But leaving a cutie like you here, all alone, would be bad manners ain't it-"
His words were cut with the slap you gave him right on his face. The slap echoed through the whole room, and he stood frozen, stunned into silence. His arrogant grin was no longer on his face; instead, there his eyes were wide in shock, looking at you, and redness on his right cheek- a beautiful result from you smacking him. Well deserved, you thought.
He gently leaned against the wall behind him, his movements were cautious. You walked over to him. Leaning in, you grabbed him by the shirt collar. You could feel his breath on your skin- quick and uneven. He was giving you a startled look. Your bodies were almost touching, and the messy look he had was giving you a warm feeling beneath your skin. You weren't going to fall for these feelings- at least for now.
"Who do you think you are exactly?" You said. "Look at you, acting all confident. I don't care if you are reckless, depressed, selfish, or whatever the hell is going on in your head- I am not your toy. And you- you should behave yourself." Your heart was almost skipping a beat. Your hands gripping his collar were getting sweaty like crazy. You continued to scold him, no matter the consequences. "All of this arrogance of yours will come to an end one day, y'know that right? What do you think- that you'll be the great Rei Sakuma for eternity? If you keep acting like an annoying idiot, your name will only fade into history. Is that what you want?"
He was looking at you, quietly, straight into your eyes. Your anger tangled with a faint fear, and your body was only just catching up as the words spilled out of your lips. First, you slapped him, and now you were scolding him... yet he didn't seem mad at all. What a strange look he had, you thought to yourself. No frown, no darkened gaze. He was simply watching you, cussing at him, and his body was standing against the wall gently. His eyes were almost in deep thought, and the way he was glazing on you... almost as if he were falling for you.
You slowly got away from his collar, making your way up to the door to the stage. "Now..." you said, quietly looking back at him. "We are gonna get to the stage. And you won't make me embarrassed, you are going to make me win. Because unlike you- talent and success didn't fall from the sky for me. I have a life I need to strive for."
These were your last words. Your movement was gentle and slow, and you slowly turned the doorknob. Taking a deep breath, you hear Rei getting ready for the stage as well. You hear your own name getting announced, and you open the door only to face the colorful spotlights. They were almost blinding- and you took a firm step to the stage.

Your performance was over, and the night was settling in. The last sounds from the music playing faded as most of the audience made their way to the exit, leaving the venue quieter with every passing second. The Live House was calm now, softened by the dim lights coming from the ceiling. A few murmurs of conversation, almost like a whisper, floated in the distance, slowly disappearing. The staff had begun closing up the Live House; stacking chairs, collecting trash, and lowering the lights. You were standing near one of the tables, tidying up your bag. It was time to go home.
The guilt you felt was sharp- so sharp it almost stung across your skin. Yelling at him like that, hitting him… That wasn’t how you handled things. It wasn’t how you wanted to be. You hadn’t even thought about what your outburst might lead to, and the weight of that realization was going to eat at you all night. Yes, Rei had been acting irresponsibly. Maybe a little scolding snapped him out of it. But what if he is angry with you now? He didn’t seem like it, but he didn’t even say anything to you. How could you know what he’s thinking? It wasn’t like you cared about him. And yet… when you stood on stage with him, when you heard that beautiful voice of his, you felt your whole body tremble.
Your thoughts were interrupted by a finger gently touching your shoulder. You turned your back immediately, just to see the person you were thinking of standing right in front of you.
“Hey [name]. You leavin’?” Rei said. He seemed calm, almost acting like nothing ever happened earlier.
“Yeah. I’m going home.”
“Mhm, it’s late.” He looked at you, and the redness of his eyes had a gentle touch to it. “Come on, I’ll take you home.”
You were surprised at this invitation, and refused it out of kindness but you knew it was late and it’d be better not to travel alone. Rei insisted, and you had to accept it anyway. Maybe it would be a good chance to apologize to him, you thought.
You and Rei walked through the exit and you followed him to the place where he parked his motorcycle. Thankfully, your house wasn’t that far away and it was going to be a short ride.
He swung one leg over the motorcycle confidently, the engine humming softly beneath him. He glanced back at you and tapped the seat behind him. “Come on. Don’t worry, I’m a good driver.” He winked at you, his hair falling on his face. He is embarrassing, you thought, but also cute.
You slowly sat on the seat, which felt narrower than you expected. You realized there was barely any space between you and Rei’s back.
“Hold on,” he said, half turning his head toward you, a teasing smile tugging at his lips. You froze. “I’m fine-” you tried to say, but the second the motorcycle shifted under you, your hands shot forward. Your palms landed on Rei’s shoulders first- and the moment he accelerated, you stumbled closer, your chest brushing his back as your arms fully wrapped around him.
Heat rushed to your face. “Look at you, getting nervous.” He murmured, his voice playful. You pressed your cheek against his back, hiding your expression. “Just focus on the road,” you said. But you felt it- the way he slightly moved his shoulders, like he was smiling to himself.
With the wind brushing past you, your arms wrapped tight around him, and the rumble of the engine beneath you both… It was almost like a romantic movie scene. You couldn’t choose between wanting more of this or not wanting at all.
When the road was finally over, he gently parked his motorcycle and you both stepped out of it. The touch of the wind left you trembling. It was getting cold. You looked at the figure in front of you. Rei was standing still, almost like he was immune to the cold.
“Well, there you are. Now I’ll go home. Take care of yourself, okay?”
He turned his back, not waiting for a response but without a thought, you hold onto his shirt. “Wait,” you said. “Don’t go. It’s too late. You should come home with me.”
He raised his eyebrow, squinting his eyes. “Mhm, are you scared somethin’ will happen to me?” He let out a small chuckle. “You don’t have to worry about me, y’know?”
“I know…” You said. “But, maybe we should talk. There is nothing bad about spending some time together, no? It’s not like you’re gonna sleep anyway.”
He smiled. “Well, if you insist that much…”
You both walked to your door. You took out your keys and slowly opened the door. Getting into your home, you were already feeling relaxed- except there was Rei Sakuma, standing behind you.
“Uhm…” he murmured. You looked behind, and he was still standing at the door.
“What?”
“Aren’t you gonna invite me in?”
Understanding what he meant, you sighed loudly. “Ugh, are you joking?” You couldn’t help but laugh at him. “Sure, come in.”
The smirk on his face was incredibly annoying but hot at the same time. You couldn’t help but glance at his body. He gently sat on one of the couches. His tall, pale figure was sitting there, lying back. He quickly fixed his hair- it was a mess because of the ride. His black, soft hair was so beautiful, looking from afar. His skin seemed delicate, almost untouchable.
“What are you looking at?” His voice startled you. “Nothing...” you answered.
“Well, you invited me here. Might as well do something.”
“Yeah, right.” You felt your cheeks burn, caught between wanting to pull away and wanting to stay close. You only had one choice, though. You had to stay close.
“Well, I wanted to apologize.” Your heart fluttered, but you didn’t stop talking. “To be honest, I had every right to be mad at you. But I shouldn’t have scolded you like that. And slapping you was… a bit extreme, maybe.”
He watched you as you spoke quietly. Stood still for a while, and gentle words came out from his lips: “No, don’t apologize.” His hand slowly made it near your hands. “I should be the one to apologize. You were right about everything you said. And that slap- I think it made me snap back to reality.”
You couldn’t help but smile at what he said. He continued: “Those words you said- they really made me question some things. You were all I was thinking about while performing. You are right- I was born with talent and success and you aren’t the only one who despises that.”
“I don’t despise it,” You interrupted him. “I just… said those in a whim. I like your talent, and I think you deserve to be successful.”
He kindly held your hand. His hands were a bit skinny, making his fingers seem even longer. You felt your skin get cold just by the touch of his. “Your hands are cold.” You spoke softly.
“And yours are warm.” His eyes were sparkling. You were nearly fascinated by his beauty. He was even prettier up close. Every single detail on his face seemed too good to be real. He was almost ethereal.
“You enjoy watching me, don’t you?”
“Mhmm,” you murmured, mesmerized by his look. “I think I do.”
“Your harsh words were a lesson to me. How can I show you my gratitude, [name]?” He moved his body closer to yours. “What kind of apology would you like?”
A warm feeling crept up your face- embarrassment tangled with a romantic touch. Your stomach was tingling, and your body was getting hotter. You delicately put your hands on Rei’s cheek, pulling him closer to your face. You felt every single breath of his. Both of your eyes were slightly getting closed, he moved softly- touching your chin with his finger and getting your lips right onto his. Unlike his hands, his lips were a bit warmer. He moved around on yours, like he was kissing you out of starvation. He kept getting faster and rougher on your mouth, using his tongue to tease you more. You let out a small moan, gripping his hair and parting your lips, looking at him.
“What are we doing, Rei?”
He looked back at you, slightly annoyed at you stopping him. “Do you want us to stop?”
You took a peek at him, and his body. You could feel your own skin burning with passion. Without a thought, you grabbed him and went down on his lips again. He fell back on the couch, leaving you on top of him.
“Mhmm,” He let out a small groan. “I got my answer…"
