Started my rewatch of DS9 today and im so unbelievably excited but damn, Im gonna suffer with beardless Sisko for a while 😅

DS9-S1E1

As far as pilots go i think DS9 might have it the hardest out of most pilots. It needs to catch you up on so many concepts.

A small list with no order:

The Bajorans and the Cardassians

The history between them

Who the trill are

What are Orbs and Prophets

and thats all before introducing any of the characters.

So moving to the actual episode. It stands out as a pilot especially in contrast to Encounter at Farpoint since Sisko is allowed much much more personal and intimate scenes. We start the episode with the worst day of his life. I absolutely adore it that once he is inside the wormhole how much of an emphasis he places on explaining linearity of time to the prophets all the while insisting how his expieriences are nonlinear even though the prophets make him face that he in part still exists in the moment when he lost Jennifer. How he Himself is incredibly nonlinear as well.

And of course heres some baseball #facts while we tak about the nature of humanity lest anyone forget this indeed is a startrek episode.

Girl has zero chill and her defense strategy is mostly being the single most terrifying woman this side of the alpha quadrant. Girl never change. She is literally holding the station together by the force of spite.

I so so sooo love the reconciliation between Sisko and Picard in the end. I would have loved for them to have discussion later into the show after the events of every-

DS9-S1E2 Past Prologue

I did not remember how soon they just jumped headfirst into the politic stories in DS9. I just wish they'd have done it differently. Like why tf are ex freedomfighter/terrorists tryna blow up a big piece of their own culture. Ugh. DS9 what are you trynaaa saaay here??? I guess they didn't know that the prophets are in there but that's not much better imo.

I also forgot though how much Odo irks me in the beginning. Like what do you meaaaan u liked it more when the Cardassians were ruling DS9 WHAT DO YOU MEAN??? I know thats most you've known thus far but daaamn ACAB and that includes the goo-man.

What a slog of an episode wrufffff...It's not even particularily anyones fault but ugh this one bored tf out of me. Hey atleast the next one isn't just bad but unhinged and bad instead which is funny again.

Okay imean at least the acting of Bashir was so bad in this episode it was mildly entertaining? What happened here???

Lmao I realised when Bashir explained how the brain processes the visual stimulus of seeing a tricorder with the word, I'm learning about exactly this in my psychology paper right now.

Sad i was hopeing for more suffering for O'Brian specifically but i guess universal suffering will have to do.

Fun to watch an episode about people getting sick really badly while you yourself are suffering.

I really dislike early Odo's writing daaaamn...

Really enjoy the dynamic with Quark though. How he defends him even if they have been adversaries for the longest time, how he helps the investigation without needing to be asked to. It adds much to his character. If only he was less of a bastard to women.

Like sure the show makes it so Odo in the end was partly right to suspect Ibudan, though the Clone as far as we know was innocent as he himself admits later. So just as much as murdering your clone is murder so is abusing your power as the constable of the station.

This episode would be a whole lot better if it actually awknowledged that but alas they have to set up the solids vs nonsolid conflict i guess...

Also Bashir you have a whole boyfriend can you stop hitting on Jadzia for like a minute?
