Jinx will realize it’s because vi is a bad sister

I don't think Vi is a bad sister. Right from the first time you meet her in Act 2 (when she sees the pictures Caitlyn has of Jinx's drawings) you can tell that her priority is saving Powder. The problem is, Jinx isn't Powder anymore. She's changed. And as much as Vi wants to save Powder, she can't let her love for her sister keep her from stopping Jinx.

And every time she chooses Powder — chooses to help Powder or save Powder or stay back for Powder— the narrative forces Vi to see that Jinx isn't Powder. You see it in bridge scene, the dinner scene, and in all the bits at the end of Act 2. Every time they cross paths, Vi is forced to choose between doing the right thing or supporting a gril who is so different to the sister she left behind all those years ago. And Vi, because of the kind of person she is, always chooses to do the right thing especially when it involves Caitlyn.

But I don't think it's fair to say that this makes Vi a bad sister (especially if you're referring to this post). She's human. She's figuring stuff out too. And, at the end of the day, whether she chooses to save Powder, or recognises that Jinx isn't the same person her sister was, I don't think it changes how much Vi loves her sister. How much she always will.

Even if Jinx doesn't see it that way.

Is it just me or is the narrative portraying Caitlyn as a substitute sister for Vi?

I don't think so. I can see why Jinx would think that Caitlyn is a substitute sister for Vi, but I don't think the narrative sets it up that way. Partly because I am on the ViCait train, and nothing will convince me that they're not supposed to be in love with each other but, more than that, because Caitlyn just doesn't fit the same kind of role Powder would have when they were kids.

The obvious reason is that Caitlyn is supposed to be equal to Vi and Powder wasn't. She's got her own mind, does her own thing. Their relationship - and dependency on one another - goes both ways (they're both injured in the course of Act 2 and 3, and literally have scenes when they need to lean on each other), which wasn't the case with Vi and Powder.

If anything, though, I think Caitlyn has been written to give Vi someone to love and to be loved by. I'd read a post on Tumblr that said something along the lines of: Vi looks at Caitlyn and realises that there is good in the cruel world they live in, and it perfectly sums up what Cait is to Vi in my eyes.

Act 2 Vi is probably anything but okay. It's made clear that she's been beaten and possibly tortured in prison. Plus, she still deals with the guilt of leaving her sister behind ("Then a real monster showed up, and I just ran away") and losing her entire family in the most brutal manner possible. That's a lot for anyone to have gone through, and for Vi to have spent 4-5 years after that alone in prison, with only her thoughts for company is fucked up. It's definitely fucked her up loads, even if the series doesn't show it in the same way they do Powder's trauma.

So Caitlyn comes in as someone for Vi to rely on - someone who is Vi's equal, and thus someone who can share her burden and fight with her. She's someone who gives Vi hope, someone who will help her heal and find love in what would otherwise be an incredibly lonely world for Vi (whether you perceive it as romantic or not). In Vi's eyes, Caitlyn is proof that there are other people who still care. Proof that who will fight for you, even when they haven't gone through what you have. That there are still people who are good and kind.

And, especially after witnessing everything that's changed with Powder while still grappling with her own trauma, I think Vi needs that a little bit more. Just like their relationship isn't sisters, but maybe a little bit more?

I think "It was supposed to happen" is the only answer we are getting regarding Steve's nonsense.

Yeah you're right. It's just one of those things that's always going to bother me though. I hated that Steve went back to Peggy as a character arc and I hate it even more now that they're explaining it away as "It was supposed to happen"

I'm somewhere in the middle where I wing the stuff I don't care about and need to google every relevant (and irrelevant) detail about some stuff because it has to be just right. Usually it's the canon stuff that need to be accurate for me though, and I keep everything else vague enough to not bother me much.

The most random fact I've learner for a fic? probably that it takes 40+ hours to drive from one end of US to the other. I also googled spider bites once and then instantly regretted it — so not doing that again

7. three words from your native language that you like the most?

I don't think I've ever thought of this, so these are the first words that popped into my head. There are prettier words but these are ones I either say a lot or have ranted about

Haina: You'd use it as an ikr!? or a right?! and I use it way more than I should, especially while texting. 

Kal: Not a word I use a lot intentionally, but kal means both yesterday and tomorrow which is hilarious to me. It doesn't get as confusing as you'd think it does, but the fact that the same word is used for two opposite meanings is extremely funny

Bhaago: It means run and this is only here for the scene in Om Shanti Om where they're filming a movie and the main character asks "What's my dialogue" and is told, "Bhaago!" which he takes literally. So instead of running, he does this:

So now I just scream bhaago every time we watch a movie in which the character needs to start running asap

I’ll admit though, more than favourite words I have favourite quotes and phrases in Hindi (mostly from Bollywood) I think those tend to mean more than just individual words. So if you’re curious about that I could answer it too!

14. do you enjoy your country’s cinema and/or TV?

I Love Bollywood. I love to rant about the problematic side of Bollywood too, and I have been known to list everything wrong with all my favourite movies but there's something about the chaos and the colour that I will always love. You’re guaranteed to feel better after a Bollywood movie and isn’t that what cinema’s supposed to do? Help you escape?
