Arabesque had been tracking Evangeline for two weeks, and she still hadn’t figured out why.
For her, it was a simple enough job. Follow the girl. Find out what she does, where she goes. Don’t get caught. Honestly, she would have just had Aria do it remotely if it weren’t for the fact that she was getting paid extra to do this stalker’s work on foot.
The thing was, Evangeline didn’t do anything. She was just some teenager on the run, doing stuff like buying diet coke and redbull at a gas station or sleeping in a park. Once in a while, Arabesque got the feeling her target knew she was there, but she never confronted her. It was baffling, not to mention mind-numbing.
So there she was. A sunny day, dressed in a casual outfit -- her mask and black combat uniform would definitely get her noticed -- and sitting on the curb across the street from the bus stop where Evangeline was waiting. She looked down to make some notes. When she looked back up, she was staring right into an angry set of stygian blue eyes and knew the truth -- she’d been caught.
