Entoptic Phenomena
Portal, 2017
Image and text by William Hundley . This photo was taken as part of an ongoing series Entoptic Phenomena . The series began accidentally when attempting to perform a silly idea that I had. I wanted to jump in the air and completely cover myself with fabric and "disappear" fr
iiaat to constantly see these little strings of bubbly things in my vision? They're rather faint sometimes, but if I look at a solid color I can see all of them. Sometimes one will be particularly clear. I thought it was dust or something but they move like flappy bird when I move my eyes. So yeah, iiaat or should I see a doctor?
This sounds like floaters. From the National Eye Institute:
Floaters are little “cobwebs” or specks that float about in your field of vision. They are small, dark, shadowy shapes that can look like spots, thread-like strands, or squiggly lines. They move as your eyes move and seem to dart away when you try to look at them directly. They do not follow your eye movements precisely, and usually drift when your eyes stop moving.
Floaters are very common. They’re not an autistic thing.
Floaters are one of several entoptic phenomena, that is, visual phenomenona arising from within the eye that lead to the perception of floating bodies, circles of light, black spots and transient flashes of light. You can read more about entoptic phenomena here.
