A/N: Long time no see! I am so into Morissa that I started to ship Gwendoline and Catherine's other characters...so! I made a fic! Bare with me if this doesn't make any sense, also I hope you like this as well as I do.
Virginia ran around the palace as she had always known, like she was a kid getting chased by her playmates. But this time, it was far more different — the palace was getting attacked. As she glanced over the window, her body became still. Instead of leaving, she redirected her steps towards the window — footsteps were slow as if she had seen a ghost. But it was far more than that, there stood on the other side — none other than Phasma, her former lover.
She couldn't quite see their features as they wore a chromium suit. She couldn't quite believe it, really, Phasma wouldn't bear to do this. But then again, why would Virginia think of it that way? Things had ended rough between them. For example, how her father had managed to lock her up in her own palace causing Phasma to be alone and think they were unlovable and all of her words were a lie. For example, how her own father had managed to replicate her own hand-writing, a letter that she had sent to Phasma, a letter that indicates how she had fallen in love with someone else — no longer wished to see Phasma in the break of dawn.
She felt upset, it felt weird, her lover. Feelings that had been buried deep, now rushing through her veins as she registered the woman she still loves - shooting innocent people, even the palace's warriors where Phasma had once dreamed of becoming one, they wanted to protect the palace, they wanted to protect her.
Her lips trembled, suddenly feeling parched, suddenly having to breathe manually. Everything around her seemed to have fallen silent, her focus was on them. Her Phasma, she whispered their name. As if they would hear it, whispered and whispered, too many times and too little sense of her voice. It sounded like a mantra, a chant. A silent echo, she thought. And for a moment, Phasma had seen her. Time was still, everything was slow. If Phasma wasn't wearing a helmet, Virginia knew their gaze had softened.
And then she had been kicked by a stormtrooper, her body losing its balance. One moment she was upright, the next she was on the tiled floors. Her legs buckled under her, and her body slammed with the sudden impact and a rush of disorientation. It was abruptly cold upon meeting the floor, and before her senses caught up — there was a gun to her head. She slightly jolted, tears forming around her eyes. "Phasma..." she murmured once again, and life seemed to flash right before her very eyes. Phasma was running towards her and then...
She heard it, a shot. It was so close, she could only hear a ringing passing by through her ears, "Virginia..." she heard someone call her name, a faint voice that was so familiar. Until they got close, she slowly fluttered her eyes open. "Are you okay?" they asked, her vision was quite blurry as she tried to focus. It was Phasma, she wanted to speak. But she couldn't, her body following Phasma's instruction as they helped her stand up. She glanced over her shoulder for a fleeting moment where her eyes were met by the same stormtrooper earlier — this time, they had been the one who got shot, their body sprawled out upon the floor.
Virginia lets out a shaky breath as her body collapses on top of Phasma's, it was cold. "I thought..." she lets out a choked sob, Phasma can only caress her hair. Both of them stayed like that for a moment, enjoying each other's embrace. She doesn't want to let Phasma go, she wants to mark this memory in her mind. "I have to go," said Phasma. Their voice were quite different, but to Virginia it was the same voice that she heard when they have known each other, the same voice that devoted their love to her — countless of times. She held them a little more, clinging onto them like a lifeline before Phasma forcefully removed her grasp onto them.
With that, Phasma lets go, running back to the battlefield. Where Virginia quickly followed, "Wait, Phas-" her words were cut short as she heard a shot, again. She hoped it wasn't her, only for that hope to be gone in an instant. She glanced at her stomach, where she hadn't realized her hand was already covering her blood. Phasma was swiftly running towards her, again, "Virginia!" they screamed under their mask, she could only watch as Phasma ran towards her. Her knees buckled under her, body slowly collapsing onto the ground, "Why are you so stubborn? You knew better than to follow me." Phasma hissed as she cradled her body, removing their gloves to hold her hand. Virginia could only chuckle, "You're here...really here." She smiled softly, as blood slowly dripped out of her mouth. "I'm sorry, Phas." She murmured as a tear escaped her eye. Phasma caressed their knuckles, slowly pulling her closer to them. "This shouldn't have happened if you didn't follow me." Virginia smiled in response, "I wanted to feel you."
"I don't care." said Phasma, they were still guarded but Virginia knew them better. She chuckled and playfully joked about her condition, which Phasma chuckled in return, but in truth. They were scared, this wasn't meant to happen. "If you die, i'm going to blame myself." Their voice was calm, stoic, and protective, yet along the lines they heard their own voice tremble. Before quickly replacing it once again, but underneath all that, they just wanted her to live, to see her free. If she hadn't followed them, she could've gotten an escape pod like the few other civilians.
"Don't blame yourself." Virginia responded, with all the strength left. She slowly put her hand on Phasma's helmet — which is now smeared with her blood. She left a kiss on the cheek, a symbol of her love. Phasma stayed with her, caressing her hand — fingers intertwined. With a shaking trembling hand, Phasma brought their fingers along with her on their cheek — wanting to prolong the warmth they had felt. As they whispered sweet nothing, devoting their love to her once again.
Until Virginia was no longer breathing, they cradled her lifeless body closer to her. Phasma glanced at her, a soft smile plastered on her face. Their free hand lingered on her cheek, caressing it with such gentleness. Phasma had forgotten why they were here in the first place.
And when they realized the fight was over, Phasma stood up — leaving their lover's body on the dirt, yet gentle as they removed her on their lap. They left with a promise of her love, with a closure. "I love you," they muttered under the helmet as they disappeared into the view.
