#JaBlogDay #EnvVDev @MizDurie chokes out a post about struggling to breathe while in Jamaica in December 2013.  Combining her personal breathing woes with data on the causes of air pollution, Durie highlights several important issues in this tension between the environment and development in Jamaica: fuel sources, agricultural practices, regulation, and changing habits.

Jamaica blog day: Environment vs Development. Baha-mar meet Jamaica's logistics hub

#JABlogDay #EnvVDev post from @dennisgjones about a influencing the perspectives of Jamaicans not located close to the proposed Goat Islands development.(i.e., those outside of the KSAC, St. Catherine, and Clarendon areas)  In a post that compares that planned development to a completed development in the Bahamas (Baha-mar), Dennis suggests that how one views the Goat Islands discussion may be affected by one's actual proximity to the location: seeing the work and people working, being exposed to the consequences of the development such as the noise and grime, and seeing the results of the development.  

Dennis challenges those "wanting to raise the level of debate on the topic [to frame the discussion in a way to influence those not close to Goat Islands or the Portland Bight area because] Jamaicans need to see and hear convincing arguments about what the hub will mean for parishes outside Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, and Clarendon.

Hopefully Minister Clarke is interested in and does discuss the impact of climate change on the environment. Food security is a significant issue for Jamaica’s development.
