One of the coolest fucking things ever.... but at what cost?
Answer is approx 500$, sorry.
In 2019 a set of various manga titles were released in complete e-book forms, but also... in a physical version containing the entire series between two pages. Titles included Initial D, Gintama, and "The Life of Akagi".
The Life of Akagi (アカギの生涯) is not Akagi, not Ten, but both series combined to tell Akagi's entire canonical life story from bastardous gunwielding start to legendary end.
One selling point of these books was that the pages were higher quality than the standard eBook that you could buy for other devices on major sites.
You navigate between pages and chapters using buttons on either sides of the pages.
On one hand, it's easy to legally purchase every individual volume of Ten and Akagi (which I hope you guys are doing :/ ) and fit that among many other series on a phone in the palm of your hand, but as a collector who doesn't have the space for much longer series, this is something that has gone to my 'I fucking need it' list.
It went up for sale around February 2019, and was up for preorder during December of the previous year.
Prices for these books varied on the length of the work, but The Life of Akagi went for 21,600 yen.
But that's not around 500$....oh yeah, they weren't individual books with one work a piece, they were on cartridges that had all the info and included the cover you could put around the device, so buying the Life of Akagi would only come with the cartridge itself.
The device, called the eOneBook, is sold separately for 38,500 yen. Likely better in the long run since you could get many works minus the cost of the device, but what a price regardless.
Though it seems Life of Akagi was not one of the more popular titles, the device itself has been very well received among manga fans all around the world, as some titles such as Naruto and Fist of the North Star are offered as bilingual Japanese/English titles (Akagi doesn’t seem to be one of them).
