Mildura has been our sort of "home" for the past three weeks. Aside from school and our field trips the remainder of the time as been spent at the Stop Over hostel. The hostel is full of interesting, albeit loud, people that are all about partying at night and working during the day. Aside from the Stop Over, we've seen a lot of Mildura; we visited the Mildura Homestead, saw the Murray River, went to the Mildura Brewery, and have walked around Mildura quite a bit. Mildura is definitely a small town, but it's been interesting to see the way that small towns are in Australia, since I come from a pretty small town myself.

Flinder's ranges had beautiful light and scenery that we experienced mostly from the bus. We did get a chance to get out and walk around Paraphilna gorge and another gorge later on in the day. Walking through the gorges where water ran millions of years ago and seeing the effects of erosion was amazing. Paraphilna gorge was the first place that we went and I struggled with taking interesting landscape photos because I really wanted to take a picture that every one else in the group wasn't taking. After the walk that day I sat down at my journal and really had to have a soul searching moment, I just wasn't taking enough pictures to have anything worth keeping. The beginning of our 8 day trip was a struggle for everyone, we all had to find our place and figure out our goals. After that day I tried hard to just take as many pictures of any and everything that I could.

Mungo National Park is easily the oldest place I have ever been to. The history that we got to see and hear about from Ricky the aboriginal was amazing. The two photos that I chose as my favorites capture my day. One shows my film camera, which I try to use as much as possible with the beautiful landscape background. The second shows a close up of some ancient aboriginal carvings.  It was a beautiful experience and a chance to test out some of the new things that we’ve learned and to work out all of the kinks for our longer 8 day field trip
