Those of you who have known me a long time, remember that at one time I had literally rafts of vintage gear here. Very few pieces of gear have not come thru' this place since I became interested in guitar equipment. The Maestro Echoplex is a piece of equipment that resonates in my mind along with other touchstone sounds like '58 Les pauls, Vintage Plexis and Hiwatts, early 60's Strats etc. Once you have used such items your mind is calibrated to that sound and imitations do not fare well.
Hot on the heels of the amazing Echorec, Catalinbread has pulled off another feat that I honestly questioned was even possible. They have essentially squeezed an authentic EP-3 sound into a tiny stompbox without losing any of the nuance or dynamic that made the original so amazing.
I am not one to pull punches when it comes to stuff like this. If you want the EP-3 sound without the hassle of the bulky form factor and the frequentish mechanical breakdowns, The Catalinbread Belle Epoch is simply perfect.
