SPEAKING: RENUURI FANFIC Modern AU / Highschool / @epeedelordre (Renn) & @raimented but not actually Hatsuyuki it’s Nasuga’s Sakura fankid Ryuuri

The only one that’s enthusiastic about this project is Ryuuri.

This is because he is literally a language dictionary — wherever he goes, a language, regardless of what language it is, follows. Spanish? It’s there. French? It’s there. Hungarian? Ott van. But the thing about Ryuuri, is that you can never rely on what he says is this or that in whatever language, because he literally rips it from Google Translate. You may believe that he takes his phone out every single time he wants to say something in a different language, but you’d be wrong.

Sometimes his knowledge of other languages is useful, especially when it’s Spanish. According to Ryuuri, Spanish is easy, because it’s closer to English than French is, which is why Renn picked out Spanish classes over French classes in the first place. He was promised by his friends that it was “easier”, but would it actually be?

And they were already doing a project, so early in the year. ... Well, okay, it was only November, but it’s still considered early, right?

“Oi oi! You listening?” Ryuuri spouts, catching Renn’s attention from the mindless doodling he’s doing in his notebook, in attempts to distract himself from Ryuuri’s lecture. “You’re not listening. Estupido.”

“Hey, I might not know as much as you, but I think I can figure out what estupido is supposed to mean.” Renn grumbles, obviously poked by that common insult, now in the form of a different language. Okay, maybe he was a little tired, but Ryuuri had been talking for 15 minutes straight.

Although Ryuuri was an obvious choice for this sort of project (the only reason Renn had picked him to be his partner was because about 90% of it would be done by him), it came with the cost of having to listen to him yap for as long as he was satisfied. Which was fine with Renn, per se, but it definitely got annoying, and tiring, especially when Ryuuri wasn’t doing anything in the duration.

The project would be due in a month, and eventually, Ryuuri got to work, whilst all Renn did was copy down words that Ryuuri himself already wrote down. It was beyond him why he’d be so willing to just give him little participation in the project, but at least he didn’t have to shoulder a big burden of it...

And then, the guilt got to him. He was sure he’d get an A on the project all for typing a few words down and printing them, as Ryuuri gathered information, made flashcards, created a poster board. All for what? What did Renn do in return, that all Ryuuri did to him that in relation got him angry was not listen to him while he was talking?

“Hey, uh, Ryuuri?” Renn called out from his seat, watching Ryuuri hot glue colorful beads to the bottom of the posterboard, because uniqueness would get them extra credit points.

“Que?” Ryuuri responded, in his mock spanish voice. At this point, Renn had gotten used to it.

“Is there anything else I can do? Uh, maybe help you with those beads?” Renn stood up, approached the other, and observed his meticulous hot-gluing. A blotch of the burning glue dabbed Ryuuri’s finger, receiving a flinch, but just as Renn was expecting an “ouch” or “ow”, Ryuuri said nothing. He was one tough cookie.

“Oh, so sweet of you. But no, está bien,” Ryuuri smiled, up towards him, and Renn felt warm in the inside. Maybe from the irritation, again.

“No, let me help. You’ve been doing a shitload yourself,” Renn reached for the hot glue gun, but Ryuuri pulled away.

“No,” Ryuuri said, again. “You don’t have to.”

“Why not? You’re doing all the work. Let me help you.”

“You’ve done enough, Renn.”

“What did I do? I just printed words. That’s literally it!”

“No. You...,” Ryuuri trailed off, picking up another bead. “You listened to me. I think that’s enough.”

Renn’s face twisted in confusion, “Listened to you? You mean when you don’t shut your mouth? Yeah.”

“That’s exactly it,” Ryuuri nodded, putting hot glue on the bead. His fingers were burnt. “Nobody has ever listened as far as you have... that makes me feel good. Me haces sentir especial.”

“What’s that mean?”

“I-It means you look shitty.”

Ryuuri and Renn got an A on the project and never talked again.
